Long Term Asset Plan Lead

We’re looking for an experienced and visionary leader to drive the technical development of Anglian Water’s Long Term asset plan, ensuring it shapes the future of our business and delivers value for our customers, stakeholders, and the environment.

This senior role will lead the development of our Long-Term Asset Plan, previously known as our Long Term Delivery Strategy (LTDS), ensuring it is technically robust, strategically aligned, and underpins key business decisions. Acting as the focal point for long-term planning, you’ll bring together diverse workstreams, fill gaps, and define the ambition, pathways, and trade-offs needed to achieve our strategic goals.

You will:

  • Lead and coordinate the technical development of our long-term asset plan, ensuring it aligns with regulatory requirements, business plans, and wider strategic objectives.

  • Provide clear insight into long-term risks, opportunities, and trade-offs to inform decision-making and enable constructive discussions with stakeholders and customers.

  • Ensure our long term asset plan provides a clear ‘golden thread’ linking our five-year business plans to our long-term ambition through adaptive, resilient planning.

  • Build and lead a community of specialists and strategic leaders to deliver this vision.

We’re seeking someone with the ability to deliver complex, technical workstreams; think strategically and creatively in a changing landscape; communicate complex concepts with clarity; and influence senior stakeholders internally and externally.

If you’re ready to shape the future of water services in our region and help us deliver on our purpose, we’d love to hear from you.

Key Accountabilities:

Develop and shape the long-term strategy and asset plan

  • Define and maintain the link between our purpose, vision, and strategic plans such as our Drainage and water recycling Management Plan (DWMP), and Water Resources Management Plan (WRMP) and long term Water Industry National environment programme (WINEP)

  • Help co-ordinate the development of our ambition, strategy, and response to future challenges.

  • Identify gaps, risks, and trade-offs, providing clear data, analysis, and recommendations.

  • Deliver complex technical workstreams, applying investment planning, options appraisal, and adaptive planning techniques.

  • Communicate technical outputs effectively to inform decisions and engage external stakeholders.

  • Prepare and present strategic papers and clear, evidence-based narratives for senior colleagues and external audiences.

Deliver the regulatory submission

  • Lead the programme of work to produce a robust, compliant, and aligned long term asset plan, drawing out submission requirements as part of regulatory business planning as needed.

  • Interpret and apply regulatory guidance, ensuring consistency with price review and other strategic plans (WRMP, DWMP, WINEP).

  • Oversee technical method statements, appoint and manage external consultants and secondees, and coordinate internal stakeholders.

  • Ensure our long term asset plan provides a clear, credible strategy to meet long-term commitments and targets.

  • Produce and present influential, evidence-based narratives for regulatory audiences.

Enable strategic decision-making

  • Integrate long-term planning across the business, ensuring strategies support informed decisions.

  • Highlight strategic risks, opportunities, and trade-offs to senior leaders.

  • Develop materials to support internal and external discussions on long-term strategy and planning.

  • Promote innovation and best value by embedding new approaches and supporting business leads.

What does it take to be a Long Term Asset Plan Lead

  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.

  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to lead and influence a diverse community of stakeholders.

  • Strong strategic planning expertise, including developing senior-level submissions and long-term business strategies.

  • Skilled in delivering complex technical workstreams, with a creative and adaptive approach to problem-solving.

  • Understanding of policy frameworks, regulatory expectations, and strategic planning in a complex environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills — able to craft clear, compelling narratives and present complex information effectively.

  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple teams and external partners.

Key Behaviours

  • Creates and communicates a clear vision.

  • Builds trust and credibility across all levels.

  • Collaborates effectively and brings people together.

  • Thinks strategically and sees the bigger picture.

  • Decisive and confident in making recommendations and driving actions.

  • Communicates with clarity, confidence, and influence – taking the complex and making it simple.

As a valued employee, you’ll be entitled to:

  • Personal private health care

  • 26 days annual leave – rising with length of service

  • Flexible working

  • Competitive pension scheme – Anglian Water double-matches your contributions up to 6%

  • Bonus scheme

  • Flexible benefits to support your wellbeing and lifestyle

Why apply?

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to shape the long-term future of Anglian Water — and the communities and environment we serve. As Long Term Asset Plan Lead, you’ll play a pivotal role in defining our vision, strategy, and regulatory plans at the highest level, ensuring we deliver sustainable, innovative solutions to meet future challenges.

You’ll work closely with senior leaders and stakeholders across the business, influence key decisions, and see your work directly impact how we invest in and deliver our services for years to come. This is a chance to bring your strategic thinking, technical expertise, and leadership to a complex and meaningful challenge — helping to create lasting value for our customers, the environment, and the wider region.
