For a great career… just add water 💧

Water security has never mattered more. If you’re a hydrology leader who thrives on responsibility, challenge and real-world impact, this is your opportunity to step into a high-profile, business‑critical role at the heart of our organisation.

Join our Water Resources and Drought team, where we protect upstream water supplies for millions of customers across the Anglian region. With a 50:50 split between groundwater and surface water, this role sits right at the intersection of science, strategy and operational decision‑making.

The role

As Hydrology Manager, you’ll lead a team of specialists, providing expert hydrological advice that underpins critical business decisions. You’ll be responsible for managing water resource risk—both quantity and quality—and ensuring we are fully prepared for drought and climate uncertainty.

This is a rare chance to combine technical excellence, people leadership, and strategic influence in a role that genuinely shapes our future water resilience.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead hydrological strategy across water resources and drought planning, including hydrological inputs to statutory Drought Plans
  • Play a key leadership role in drought response, acting as a principal hydrological contact and leading tactical and strategic workstreams
  • Oversee hydrological analysis, modelling and reporting, ensuring data drives innovative, practical solutions
  • Manage complex, high‑impact projects, from drought permit preparation to data visualisation and insight
  • Influence and collaborate with senior stakeholders, including the Environment Agency and internal decision-makers
  • Translate complex science into clear, actionable insight that supports confident business decisions

About you

You’ll bring a strong blend of technical credibility and leadership capability, with the confidence to operate in a fast‑moving, high‑stakes environment.

  • Proven experience in hydrology or water resources management
  • Strong analytical and scientific expertise, with a strategic mindset
  • Inspirational leader, able to motivate and develop specialist teams
  • Excellent communicator, skilled at simplifying complex information
  • Confident stakeholder manager with strong influencing skills
  • Full UK driving licence required - You’ll be based in the office 1–2 days per week, with the flexibility to work from home or in another of our offices for the remainder of the time. Travel to other offices or sites will be required occasionally to support business needs.

What we offer

Alongside the opportunity to make a genuine difference, you’ll benefit from a competitive and flexible rewards package, including:

  • Private healthcare
  • Virtual GP service for you and your household
  • Generous pension scheme – we double‑match contributions up to 6% (18% total)
  • Hybrid working (1–2 days per week in the Cambridge office)
  • Flexibility to support work–life balance

Why join us?

We believe our workforce should reflect the communities we serve. We’re committed to inclusion, fairness and opportunity for all and proudly support initiatives including the Social Mobility Pledge, Race at Work Charter, Armed Forces Covenant, Disability Confident, and the Women’s Utility Network.
