Design Lead

Contract: Full-time/ Permanent

Anglian Water is a leading water and water recycling company, committed to delivering sustainable and efficient water solutions across the region. We are seeking a highly motivated Design Lead to join our IMRDS Capital Delivery team, focusing on Main Laying projects.

What you will be doing as a Design Lead
As the Design Lead for IMRDS Capital Delivery, you will lead the design for both in-house teams, remote design partners, and external design consultancies. You will be fully responsible for all aspects of design across the relevant portfolio, ensuring projects are delivered within agreed timescales and meet both commercial and technical requirements.

From the outset, you will assume responsibility for your team of Designers and accountability for delivery within their Pods for each scheme design

In addition to your leadership duties, you may be required to undertake some CDM Principal Designer duties under the delegation of the Design and Engineering Manager, ensuring compliance with the Totex Delivery Process, New Roads & Street Works Act 1991 (Diversionary Works), and other relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the design process for the main laying portfolio, ensuring compliance with technical and safety standards.

  • Allocate design resources, maintain close liaison with utilities teams, and coordinate efforts with the modelling team.

  • Champion the digital development of infrastructure designs, promoting the use of 3D models.

  • Ensure all design work adheres to required standards and specifications, coordinating with internal stakeholders as needed whilst considering environmental constraints.


Qualifications, Experience & Skills

  • Extensive experience in a similar technical role, Experience in designing, planning, or delivering infrastructure or capital projects

  • Strong leadership skills to inspire and support others in achieving critical tasks.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively and demonstrate clear judgement and decision-making.

  • Excellent prioritisation and planning skills, with the ability to organise and manage workloads.

  • Strong customer focus, maintaining excellent relationships with stakeholders.

  • Experience in coaching, mentoring, and developing team members to reach their full potential.

  • Ability to embrace and drive change, challenging the status quo and fostering continuous improvement and innovation.
