We are gearing up for our most exciting and challenging Asset Management Period yet, known as AMP8, this will see us deliver a programme of work larger than we’ve ever delivered before. We’ll be embarking on a new kind of project delivery focusing on nature-based solutions like wetlands and urban drainage schemes.

We are driving change, empowering us to set global benchmarks and build a better environment, with the opportunity to offer enhanced growth and development to our workforce. We’re looking to build on our existing teams with an environment built for career progression. With such an exciting portfolio of projects planned for AMP8 to keep the water flowing across the region, our ability to manage our work and outperform against our customer’s expectations will come under greater scrutiny.

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team we're seeking a Civil Engineer to help deliver a range of Water Non-Infrastructure (WNI) projects.

What will you be doing as our new Civil Engineer in WNI?

You’ll create and develop value-driven civil designs that achieve our capital investment programme outcomes and deliver value. Under the direction of the project Technical Manager, you'll deliver a range of Water Non-Infrastructure projects associated with potable water assets and within the bounds of a water treatment works or storage site.

Key responsibilities:

  • Production of civil designs, calculations and specifications for water-sector assets, design schedule and speciy pipes, including ductile iron, steelwork and plastic.

  • Working within multi-discipline design teams to produce designs which are on time, within budget and meet the required standards, liaising with stakeholders including Operations, contractors, and suppliers along the way.

  • Drive excellence in Health and Safety in design by eliminating hazards and reducing risks during design whilst complying with Alliance CDM procedures.

  • Progress projects from feasibility stage through detailed design to construction.

  • Undertake site visits to assess current condition of our assets for feasibility studies, reports and provide survey data for integration of the asset into our design solution.

  • Provide support to update existing, and increase the number of, Standard Products that are used within our design solutions on a repeatable basis.

  • Identify and promote opportunities to meet the project digital, sustainability, innovation and people objectives.

A little bit about your skills, experience and behaviours….

To join us on the team, ideally, you’ll hold a BEng or MEng/MSc Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, ideally working towards attaining Chartered Engineer status. You'll have a good knowledge and experience of undertaking structural calculations for various concrete structures, and demonstrable experience in undertaking design of various civil engineering structures within the Water industry, and experience with relevant engineering design software packages. You will be confident in the utilisation of British Standards and Eurocodes and have the ability to interpret ground investigation reports to enable you to design the correct solution.

You’ll be accustomed to communicating with a range of people as you collaborate to meet, and exceed, stakeholder expectations. Your strong reporting writing skills and data analysis capabilities will allow you to understand our challenges and enthusiastically suggest enhanced ways of working.
