Job Description

Location - Basildon, Essex
Start date - August 2026
Starting Salary: £18,000 (increasing to £23,500 in your second year!)
Right to Work in the UK: To be considered for this role you must currently have right to work in the UK.

Did you know that approximately two thirds of the country’s sludge is treated through anaerobic digestion processes, where the sludge is treated in specialised tanks and heated to high temperatures to kill off harmful bacteria. Anaerobic digestion allows us to produce biosolids which is used as a soil conditioner for agricultural land and to generate renewable energy in the form of biogas. This helps us to reduce our reliance on traditional energy sources.

Working in the Wastewater (Sewage) teams, this is the chance to restart your career with Anglian Water as a Bioresources Maintenance Technician Apprentice! Join our Bioresources team and train to become a skilled technician in engineering. You’ll split your time between college and hands-on learning at our sites, helping the water recycling process that collects wastewater, treats and cleans it, before returning it safely to our rivers and seas, to safeguard, protect and improve the environment.

This is a hands-on practical role working outside in a variety of weather; the work is varied, rewarding and at times challenging, but no two days are the same! Once qualified, you’ll join a 24/7 standby rota because your role is vital.

We are very proud of our apprentices here at Anglian Water. Over 87% of our apprentices are still working here at Anglian after 10 years. Check out our career site to hear more about opportunities and hear from our current apprentices - Operational Apprenticeships - Anglian Water Careers

If you do not currently hold a full UK driving licence, you’ll need to obtain one by the end of year two of the programme, or if this isn’t possible due to your age, within one year of your 17th birthday.
