Job Description

Job Description:

The Wing Loads and Aeroelastics team in Filton (UK) is looking for talented individuals to join a highly engaged and international team of experts, specialists and integrators.

You will be working closely with the departments of Flight Physics and Airframe in order to calculate and analyse external wing loads for all major Airbus programmes, including the A320 family, A330 and A350. You will be involved from the very beginning of the process (first concepts and preliminary design) through to end product certification.

The team is situated at the interface between many different engineering disciplines and works across many different projects, including the very latest research and technology projects focusing on sustainability and pioneering the next generation of aircraft. This role provides an exciting opportunity to work as part of a collaborative and supportive team. Our network of specialists and experts can help you to develop a broad knowledge of the integrated aircraft.

Together we will strive to optimise aircraft performance and meet the highest safety, sustainability and operational standards.

Your main activities

To be successful in this role you will utilise or develop a broad range of skills to:

  • Establish requirements for Finite Element Model (FEM) loading and wing airframe design and ensure the overall aircraft loads calculation process is shaped to meet these requirements.
  • Calculate, interpret and deliver static and fatigue external loads acting on the wing components in adherence with the relevant airworthiness regulations, quality processes and programme assumptions.
  • Support the wing airframe design teams in their use of this data.
  • Support flight test campaigns to validate load calculations.
  • Acquire competencies related to new technologies, such as, data analytics, Model Based Systems Engineering, Artificial Intelligence etc.
  • Continuously improve quality, processes, methods and tools.
  • Ensure a positive relationship and team spirit is maintained within the team and with all stakeholders.

As your knowledge and experience grows, you will be relied upon to contribute to aircraft optimization and identify and manage technical risk through innovative, multidisciplinary approaches.

About you

We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated and team oriented individuals with the following skills and experience:

  • An engineering/STEM degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • A good understanding of flight physics
  • Familiarity with Airframe disciplines, particularly static stress or Fatigue & Damage Tolerance
  • Excellent communication, team working and interpersonal skills
  • An interest in finding creative solutions to complex problems and a willingness to learn and share knowledge with your colleagues
  • The ability to develop effective customer relationships
  • A high regard for quality compliance and attention to detail
  • Basic project management experience
  • Negotiation level in English

Familiarity with Python, NASTRAN, HyperWorks, Linux and/or MATLAB will also help with the role, but if not, you’ll be able to learn.

Your application

Please ensure that a CV and a covering letter, detailing your motivations and suitability for this position, is included in your application.

Some of the team work flexibly in different ways, including part-time. Please talk to us at the interview about the flexibility you need. We can’t promise to give you exactly what you want, but we certainly won’t mind you asking.

This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Company’s success, reputation and sustainable growth.
