Principal Engineer - Physical Design & Structural Integrity (m/f)
Job Description
Job Description:
As part of Airbus's ambition to grow a proficient and competitive Engineering organisation, we are launching a Commercial Aircraft Engineering Centre in Poland. This initiative aims to leverage Poland's talent pool and technological ecosystem, specifically in the field of Propulsion systems, while supporting our broader Engineering workload and competitiveness requirements, and reinforcing Airbus’ strategic engagement with Poland.
Role Overview Join Airbus Poland Engineering center, as the Principal Engineer - Physical Design & Structural Integrity. You will be the foremost technical expert within the Kraków Center for all mechanical and structural engineering disciplines.
This role provides critical support to the Technical Operations leader by ensuring that all physical designs, structural integrations, and mechanical systems are technically sound, highly optimized, and certifiable. You will lead the technical validation of stress analyses (Static, Fatigue, and Damage Tolerance) and mentor the local engineering teams to execute complex designs in compliance with Airbus CS-25 regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & CS-25 Compliance
- Technical Validation: Act as the primary Technical Checker/Approver of engineering Center deliverables before they are submitted for DOA certification, covering:
- Static and dynamic stress reports.
- Complex Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and hand calculations.
- Fatigue and Damage Tolerance (F&D) assessments, ensuring the structural lifespan and safety margins meet rigorous aerospace standards.
- 3D physical design.
- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) strategies and kinematic studies for moving mechanical systems.
- Lifing studies.
- Static and dynamic stress reports.
- DOA Support: Work closely with the Technical Operations leader to generate the technical artifacts (drawings, stress reports, test specifications) required for Airbus CS-25 compliance.
- Root Cause Analysis: Lead complex technical investigations and root-cause analyses for design non-conformances or physical testing failures.
- Mentorship: Elevate the technical capability of the local team (mid-level and junior engineers) through continuous mentoring in aerospace design principles and stress methodologies.
The Ideal Profile
Education & Experience
- Education: Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of aircraft certification processes, specifically relating to structural substantiation under EASA/Airbus CS-25.
- Tool Proficiency: Expert-level knowledge of aerospace CAD systems (e.g., CATIA V5 / 3DEXPERIENCE) and industry-standard CAE/FEA solvers (e.g., NASTRAN, PATRAN, Abaqus, ANSYS).
- Experience: 10+ years of deep technical experience in aerospace mechanical design and structural analysis (Static & F&D).
- Industry Bonus: Prior experience working directly for an aero-engine manufacturer (e.g., Safran, Rolls-Royce, GE Aviation, Pratt & Whitney, MTU) is highly preferred.
Soft Skills
- Strong mentoring, coaching, and knowledge transfer capabilities.
- Exceptional problem-solving oriented mindset and analytical skills.
- Autonomy, team spirit, and capability to guide engineers in a high-technical environment.
- Good communication and listening skills to interact effectively with the Technical Operations leader and global experts.
This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Company’s success, reputation and sustainable growth.
