MTM Robotics (Mobile Tool Management) is looking for a qualified individual to fill an opening for a Software/Controls Engineer (SCE). MTM designs, manufactures, and installs automated assembly and control systems for research and industrial manufacturing applications in the aerospace industry. Our tools are used in the direct manufacture of large-scale aerospace structures.
The SCE will work with electromechanical processes and equipment that perform software-programmed tasks in manufacturing environments. The SCE will design, implement, and test automated machines and troubleshoot problems with software-driven electromechanical equipment to ensure proper functionality.

The duties of the SCE include:

• Develop low-level and medium-level software in a mixed computing environment with an emphasis on, embedded Linux supervisory software, motion control systems, and TCP/IP integration using basic TCP-level and higher-level protocols.
• Assist in the design process of new systems and architectures, and inform the development of better programming practices and procedures.
• Improve existing software based on requirements and requests from customers and colleagues.
• Work closely with Electrical Engineers on PCB driver programming, hardware/software troubleshooting, machine testing, and power up.
• Provide technical support in subject matters of performance, installation, maintenance, system testing, and documentation of software and hardware.

The ideal candidate would have:

• B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or similar. M.S. preferred.
• Knowledge of C/C++ and (optionally) .NET C#. Understands, develops, and debugs low-level software routines as well as system-wide software architectures.
• Embedded Programming in C/C++ for Embedded Linux, Real Time Operating System and baremetal.
• Experience with development of embedded systems for an industrial environment. Familiar with Eclipse based projects for ARM targets.
• Knowledge of other programming languages including Python, Perl, Javascript, HMTL, AJAX, etc.
• Knowledge of modern programming practices, along with a willingness to work with and troubleshoot code designed to older standards.
• Working knowledge, or desire to learn, the following platforms: Windows 10 desktop, and Linux embedded products.
• Experience and comfort working with hardware and motion control systems, including servo motor tuning and familiarity with AC, DC, servo, and stepper motor concepts. Example motion control development platforms include Elmo, Animatics, IMS/Schneider Electric Motion (M-Drive), Parker, Yaskawa, and Galil.
• Discipline and organization with respect to software maintenance and version management.
• Experience with source configuration management tools (git).
• Familiar with common embedded peripherals including Ethernet, RS232/RS485, I2C, SPI, GPIO, ADC, DAC, SD, USB, etc.
• The ability to work independently to achieve required goals with minimal oversight.
• The interpersonal skills and knowledge to work within an engineering team that spans electrical, software, mechanical, and systems engineering.
• The ability to communicate information and ideas, in writing and orally, so others will clearly understand.
