Job Description

Job Description:

What if your professional adventure started @ Airbus !

Are you looking for a master thesis?

We would like to give you the opportunity to work for a world-leading company in its field, focused on digital technology, at the forefront of research and innovation.

We offer a master thesis: «Master thesis 2025 - Aero-structural dynamic simulation and optimisation of a helicopter stabilizer (m/f/d) » at Airbus Helicopters in Donauwörth

You will join the “Aeromechanics and Performances” department in charge of general helicopter design studies in the areas of aerodynamics, thermal, icing, flight mechanics, performance and flight loops.

The topic of the work is the combined aero- and structural-dynamic analysis and optimisation of helicopter tail units. To this end, it is first necessary to familiarise ourselves with an existing simulation and analysis chain consisting of aero- and structural-dynamic simulation. If necessary, slight case-specific adaptations of the simulation chain would have to be carried out. Based on the validation using existing flight test data, the simulation chain is to be used to analyse and further optimise the stabilizer of a new helicopter. This requires the adaptation of both aerodynamic and FEM models, which form the basis of the coupled simulation. The aim of the optimisation is to minimise the weight of the stabilizer, taking into account the stability requirements of static and dynamic loads, the dynamic behaviour and the aerodynamic interactions and requirements.

Your Boarding Pass:

You are preparing a master in aerospace or similar and you have the following competences:

  • General aerodynamics
  • Numerical aerodynamics
  • Structural mechanics / FEM
  • General knowledge of flight mechanics
  • Programming skills in Python are necessary
  • Soft skills: Independent work, accuracy, curiosity and initiative
  • Linux shell knowledge is an advantage

Language skills :

  • German : good (optional)
