An opportunity for a Flight Test Instrumentation Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence and Space, Getafe (Madrid).

The selected candidate will join the Flight Tests Instrumentation Architecture & Equipment Team, whose mission is to provide flight test means to gather critical data from aircraft test objects for further evaluation. Our capabilities span special onboard systems, rapid troubleshooting, sensors and metrology, data acquisition, telemetry, and onboard manufacturing.

You will be part of a multidisciplinary and multicultural team responsible for the full life cycle of Flight Test Instrumentation (FTI) installations for the Airbus Derivatives (MRTT) Program-from conception and equipment integration to final deployment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and define Flight Test Instrumentation (FTI) installations onboard Flight Test Aircraft for the MRTT program, analyzing requirements to specify and provide complete FTI systems (hardware, software, and digital systems).
  • Prepare and document technical FTI documentation for Aircraft Installation Design Offices and FTI Laboratory Facilities in compliance with quality, cost, and time standards.
  • Coordinate and manage end-to-end FTI activities with key stakeholders, including budget, export control, stock, spare parts, and Verification & Validation (V&V) tasks.
  • Support in-service operations by investigating and solving technical anomalies, ensuring smooth operations throughout the development phase.
  • Evaluate and implement Make or Buy processes alongside new instrumentation technologies to meet future project demands.

  • Education: Degree in Electronics, Aeronautics, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience: Proven experience in testing activities and solid expertise in data acquisition systems for analog, digital, and bus signals.
  • Soft skills: High adaptability, proactivity in problem-finding and proposing solutions, strong team spirit, organized profile, and effective negotiation and communication capabilities in a multicultural environment.
  • Languages: Advanced level in English (both written & spoken); Spanish capability is desirable.
  • Technical knowledge:
    • Proficiency in configuration of network devices (routers, switches) and WAN/LAN protocol stacks (TCP/UDP, IP, PTP, SNMP, Ethernet).
    • Hands-on experience with Telemetry equipment (transmitters, antennas, amplifiers, calibration) and Global Navigation Satellite Systems.
    • Knowledge of Radio Frequency chains and Network Simulation & Analysis tools (Wireshark, IPerf).
    • High capability to analyze and understand the behavior of electronic devices and digital protocols.
  • Valuable / Nice to have: Programming skills in LUA, LabVIEW, or Python; familiarity with Airbus documentation and tools (NRD, A400M FTI Block Diagrams, Drawing Information Sheets, Sabre, Sabre Criev, STILo, N-Show, RODAS, EPD, TLB, FTI databases, DOORS).
