An opportunity for a vacancy has arisen for an open position inside the Composite Technology team for Central Manufacturing Engineering within Airbus (Commercial Aircraft) in Filton. This team is a transnational group dedicated to maturing new technologies in R&T to improve both legacy and future programs. As a key actor on these R&T projects, the successful jobholder will be responsible for the performance and reliability of New Manufacturing Technologies implementation, ensuring innovation translates into operational success.
The jobholder is accountable and responsible for defining and executing the Composites Industrial Technology R&T activities for Wing alongside the local team. This role requires you to lead and steer our industrial and academic partners on Composite Technology developments and associated manufacturing process simulation. Furthermore, you will set up the Technology Roadmap to deliver mature R&T solutions with a robust route to industrialisation for current and future products, while maintaining a technology scouting initiative aligned with that roadmap.
HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE TEAM
- Define and steer upstream R&T (PhD and Research Centre programs) to identify mature technologies for industrial development, ensuring alignment with short-, mid-, and long-term Industrial Strategy and Product Policy.
- Identify customer needs from plants and new programs to present and set up transnational R&T projects that deliver targeted industrial solutions.
- Operational Delivery & Demonstration: Manage the operational delivery of R&T projects, moving beyond design concepts to build prototypes, demonstrate process capability, and manage project finance and deliverables.
- Plan and perform physical trials (Forming, Infusion/Injection) to mature CFRP materials, tooling, and simulation, while developing improvements to composite processes and robust data capture.
- Accelerate the deployment of digital solutions for industrial efficiency, acting as the technical authority for Knowledge Management and validating developments with Experts and Architects.
- Drive an End-to-End approach for process capability with Quality support, managing concessions in manufacturing, and collaborating with external partners, Technological Centres, and suppliers.
ABOUT YOU:
- Composite materials and processes knowledge is mandatory, both in TS Pre-Preg & Dry formats
- Knowledge of Composite Quality requirements, including manufacturing Specifications, Processes & Standards
- Experienced in shop floor projects related to composite manufacturing
- Manufacturing Process Simulation capability development and its application would be appreciated
- Able to define Design for Manufacture requirements & challenge State of the Art designs
- Project Management experience & skills are nice to have
- Agility to operate & communicate in multi-stakeholder environments and on blue sky topics (with poor definition of parameters)
- Demonstrate a strong vision of what the future composite industrial system and enabling materials and processes should look like
- Ability to work in multi-disciplinary and transnational environment, understanding of the Airbus context
