In order to support Weapon Systems Design Office for A400M at Airbus Defence and Space in Manching we are looking for a

A400M Weapon Systems Engineer (d/m/f)

The A400M "Atlas" is the most advanced, proven and certified airlifter available, combining 21st century state-of-the-art technologies to fulfil the current and upcoming armed forces’ needs. The A400M combines the capability to carry strategic loads with the ability to deliver even into tactical locations with small and unprepared airstrips and can act as a frontline-tanker. One aircraft that can do the work of three - the A400M.

For our current and future challenges in definition, development, and integration of the Weapon Systems Design Office for A400M in Manching, we are looking for YOU!

This role is also available with reduced weekly hours and an adapted scope of tasks.

Your tasks and responsibilities

Technical Project Management:

  • Capturing customer requirements, generating corresponding solutions, and producing technical specifications,
  • Planning for Airbus engineering activities,
  • Defining project management artefacts as PBS and WBS,
  • Creation of work package descriptions, estimating resources,
  • Planning, coordinating and performing Technical Reviews,
  • Development of engineering plans,
  • Continuously monitoring progress, ensuring timely resolution of technical issues, and leading engineering change management,
  • Suppiler (Tier-3) technical management
  • Identification and planning of the engineering resources related to the engineering work packages and verify availability of resources with the EW Engineering team leader,
  • Planning and monitoring the certification/qualification/acceptance of the integrated EW solutions,
  • Continuously trying to find agile and lean ways of performing engineering activities.


Systems Engineering:

  • Requirements analysis and definition (incl. requirements engineering in DOORS),
  • System architecture development,
  • Trade-off analysis in order to select the best solution fulfilling the requirements,
  • Impact analysis of design changes considering the entire product life-cycle,
  • Interface definition and management,
  • Definition of the requirements acceptance criteria,
  • Stakeholder identification and management,
  • Performing technical milestone reviews (with or without customer)


Desired skills and qualifications

  • Engineering degree in telecommunications, electronics or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in systems engineering
  • Experience in electronic warfare systems (sensors, countermeasures, avionics, etc.)
  • 5x years of experience in equipment development and/or supplier management for airborne equipment
  • Innovation and problem-solving skills with strong customer focus
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • A400M knowledge and experience preferred
  • ARP4754 (Development of Aircraft Systems), DO-178 (Airborne Software Certification), DO-254 (Complex Airborne Hardware Certification) and DO-160 Environmental Qualification knowledge required
  • Experience and knowledge on Airbus processes preferred
  • English skills on negotiation level, German skills preferred
  • Security clearance or the possibility to be cleared and A400M accreditation (A400M nationalities) are mandatory
