TrueLayer is Europe’s fastest-growing Pay by Bank network. We power smarter, safer and faster payments by combining real-time bank payments with financial and identity data. E-commerce, iGaming and Financial Services businesses use our products to onboard new users, accept money and make payouts in seconds, and at scale. Live across 22 countries and with 1 new user joining TrueLayer’s Pay by Bank network every 3 seconds, we’re in a very exciting growth stage. This is why we’re expanding the team across our offices in London, Milan, and Dublin.

Listed in Sifted as one of the 100 fastest growing start-ups in UK & Ireland, and CNBC’s World Top Fintech Companies, we’re trusted by industry leaders like RyanAir and Just Eat Takeaway for continued innovation within our payment products. To date, we’ve raised over $300 million from world-renowned investors including Stripe, Tiger Global, Northzone, and Tencent. But this is just the beginning.

We’re looking for people who are excited about joining the Pay by Bank revolution and helping us change the way the world pays. Could this be you?

Description

At TrueLayer, we’re building a global open banking platform that’s changing how money moves and so much more. We make payments and refunds instant, account data accessible and verification seamless — all so innovators in every industry can build better financial experiences for their users.

We're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead one of our product development teams. You'll balance people management, delivery ownership, and technical validation — working closely with a Product Manager to protect our merchants while enabling growth. This role has significant autonomy. You own and are accountable for your team’s delivery, quality, and growth.

Working at a rapidly growing fintech, you’ll encounter new and exciting challenges as we scale our products and infrastructure to meet the demands of our customers, and expand our ecosystem to open up new possibilities. We continuously expand our product offering without ever compromising system stability, maintainability, or our commitment to a 99.99% availability SLA. We strive to be an exceptional workplace that prioritises honest interactions while providing the support and guidance for our engineers to reach their full potential.

What we expect from you, as an Engineering Manager

  • Lead Your Team Build and grow a diverse, inclusive team through hiring, active coaching, and performance management. Foster a culture of psychological safety, ownership, and recognition where engineers can thrive.

  • Deliver Outcomes & Operations Partner with Product to shape the roadmap and drive delivery while managing risks. Collaborate with other Engineering Managers to streamline cross team initiatives. Own operational excellence (SLOs, incident response) and use data to drive your decisions.

  • Guide Technical Decisions Hold accountability for the technical direction and major architectural choices. Understand consequences, articulate trade-offs and risks, and act accordingly. Empower your team to drive design decisions while ensuring solutions align with business goals and avoid over-engineering.

  • Improve How We Work Continuously optimise team processes and wellbeing using data. Ensure your team's feedback reaches leadership and actively contribute to the wider engineering community.

  • Work with Stakeholders Communicate what's feasible and manage expectations clearly. Translate commercial opportunities and regulatory constraints into executable solutions.

Requirements

Experience:

  • 2+ years leading engineering teams, with solid individual contributor background
  • Track record delivering complex projects in distributed systems (.NET, Java, Rust, Go, or similar)
  • Proven ability to coach engineers and build high-performing teams
  • Experience with observability, incident management, and production systems
  • Ability to self-serve insights by investigating data across various metrics, logging, and analytics tools.

Skills:

  • Product thinking — you understand business context and user needs
  • Self-driving growth enabler — you empower rather than command
  • Clear communicator who can work with non-technical stakeholders
  • Process improvement mindset — you challenge the status quo constructively

We’d be particularly excited if you have:

  • Hands-on experience with Rust, SQL, AWS, Terraform
  • Payments, fintech, or regulated industry experience

What you can expect from us

  • Competitive salary and meaningful equity in the company 💰
  • Flexible hours and hybrid working - we offer a hybrid approach to work of 3 days per week remote working 🏡 and 2 days per week in our new offices in London 🇬🇧 Milan 🇮🇹 and Dublin 🇮🇪
  • Need to collect the kids from childcare? Love a workout in the gym first thing? No worries, we trust you to do your best work within our hybrid framework 🧘
  • A one-off contribution of €200 to help you set up your home office 💺
  • Flexible holiday policy, with 24 days as standard ✈️
  • 2 volunteering days to support causes important to you 🌳
  • Generous parental leave, above and beyond statutory requirements and with no minimum tenure 👨‍👩‍👧
  • Meal vouchers for every day you’re working, including while remote
  • Budget to spend on learning & development each year 📚
  • 12 fully-paid wellbeing days a year and your birthday off (on top of the holiday allowance) 🕊
  • Membership of mental wellbeing platform Spill 🧘🏻‍♀️

At TrueLayer, we don’t just do inclusion and diversity. We embrace people that have different opinions, perspectives and personalities. If you’d like to discuss alternative working patterns, please let us know.
