Senior level sponsorship
Our menopause initiatives are championed at the highest levels of the company. Sir Simon Lister, in his role as Gender in-country Sponsor, provides senior-level sponsorship, ensuring that menopause awareness and support remain a priority across our organisation. This leadership involvement underscores the importance we place on gender equality and employee well-being.
Menopause champions across the UK
We have appointed Menopause Champions in all our UK businesses. These champions, who represent a mix of genders and roles, are dedicated to providing support and raising awareness about menopause in the workplace. Their presence ensures that employees have access to knowledgeable and empathetic resources who can offer guidance and support.
Award-winning peer support network
Our employee-led menopause peer support network, ‘Pause for Thought,’ is part of the Gender Equality Network (GEN) Employee Resource Group. This network has received the InsideOut Award for its outstanding efforts in supporting employees. ‘Pause for Thought’ provides a safe space for employees to share experiences, seek advice, and find solidarity among colleagues who understand the challenges of menopause.
One-on-one menopause coaching
Recognising the unique needs of each individual, we offer 1-2-1 menopause coaching with accredited coaches. These sessions provide personalized support and guidance, helping employees navigate menopause with confidence and ease. Our coaches are trained to address a range of menopause-related issues, ensuring that employees receive the assistance they need to manage their symptoms effectively.
Dedicated menopause hub
We have established an internal dedicated Menopause Hub, a comprehensive resource that provides employees with all the information they need about menopause. This hub includes educational materials, support resources, and practical advice, all in one convenient location. By centralising this information, we make it easier for employees to access the resources they need to manage menopause effectively.
Monthly webex training sessions
To raise awareness about the impact of menopause on all employees, we conduct monthly manager and colleague Webex training sessions. These sessions are designed to educate employees about menopause, its symptoms, and how to support colleagues who are experiencing it. The training aims to create a more understanding and supportive work environment for everyone.
Trained HR and mental health first aiders
Our Human Resource colleagues and Mental Health First Aiders have undergone specialized training to provide guidance and support to employees experiencing menopause. They are equipped to offer practical advice and signpost to the various resources available within the company, ensuring that employees receive the help they need promptly and effectively.
Quarterly Menopause masterclasses
We deliver quarterly menopause masterclasses, which are refreshed annually to ensure they remain current and relevant. These masterclasses provide in-depth information about menopause, covering a range of topics from medical aspects to practical coping strategies. They are designed to empower employees with knowledge and confidence in managing menopause.
Break the stigma roadshows
Our commitment to breaking the stigma around menopause is evident through our participation in ‘Break the Stigma’ roadshows. These events provide a platform to openly discuss menopause, share experiences, and promote understanding. By taking part in these roadshows, we aim to challenge misconceptions and foster a more inclusive work environment.
Quarterly Q&A sessions with a Menopause GP
To provide expert medical advice, we have set up quarterly Q&A sessions with a menopause GP. These sessions allow employees to ask questions and receive professional guidance on managing menopause symptoms. The opportunity to consult with a medical expert helps employees make informed decisions about their health and well-being.
Working adjustment passport
We promote the use of the Working Adjustment Passport, encouraging employees experiencing menopause to document any reasonable adjustments agreed upon with their line manager. This passport ensures that necessary accommodations are made to support employees in managing their symptoms while maintaining their productivity and well-being at work.At BAE Systems, we believe that supporting employees through all stages of their lives is crucial to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace.
