What is your name and your role at Camunda?

I am Kausar Belgaum and I am Senior Sales Manager for the Region DACH.

What experiences have shaped your career and led you to where you are today?

I moved up from being a developer to pre-sales to sales. I was not great at sales at first but I had great coaches that trained me overtime to become successful in sales. Throughout my sales career I have had the pleasure to work for some really exceptional managers but also some not so good managers. Different management styles and their effect on my performance and motivation always intrigued and interested me, and with that came my aspiration to be a manager myself one day. At Camunda I finally had the privilege of meeting amazing mentors that made it possible for me to test and challenge myself as a manager.

How did you learn about Camunda, and what motivated you to join the team?

I have a long Middleware sales background from Oracle and SoftwareAG so knew about BPMN and the OMG

My journey into startups and scale-ups happened when I switched to selling industrial grade 3D printers for a startup in Berlin and then in Munich, where I worked for 4 years.

When a headhunter approached me with Camunda it sparked my interest as I love working in a startup / scale-up environment and it was software that I could relate to.

A convincing factor for me was meeting my then-manager and hearing from my best friend really good things about Camunda from the time he did his graduate project here way back in 2008/2009 🙂

What excites you the most about your work?

Continuous learning and challenging myself are my biggest drivers. And at Camunda I get both learning opportunities and am regularly challenged through our fast-paced environment. Camunda provides a lot of opportunities for my development and exploring innovative approaches.

As a fully remote company, Camunda has spent a lot of care creating an intentional remote culture, but “remote culture” can mean a lot of things. What does the remote culture of Camunda mean to you?

Remote culture means for me more flexibility to unite personal life and work life. It allows me to spend more quality time with my family without losing focus on my work.

One of the more powerful aspects of process orchestration is how broadly it can be applied to deliver value for organisations. Is there a specific capability or use case that you’ve seen in your work that you think is really cool?

My favorite story is from CamundaCon in 2018 when Duni (A paper napkin company) talked about how they overcame their value trap by orchestrating their end-to-end process from sale to custom design to printing and delivery of their products in a scalable way and across different system while incorporating the viewpoints of their IT and their business departments with the help of Camunda. More so they went on to join forces with a Camunda Partner to implement process orchestration for their production planning as well. Each time I hold a Duni napkin in my hand I think of how Camunda was part of the process :).

What is a project or idea you’ve worked on at Camunda that you’re particularly proud of?

I have many proud moments: selling the first 250k deal, one of the first of an innovative new kind of AAJ deal, or traveling all the way to Japan for a POC and contract negotiation. I am also proud to have been successful in my first management position and being able to build, manage and be part of a team of great individuals.

Can you share something about your personal life that colleagues might not know about you?

I think I am an open book and most people know me for my passion for martial arts (currently I am all about Muay Thai), cats (but also dogs and animals in general), travel and food.

Do you have any tips for others in your role that are looking to get started or grow their careers?

Your journey starts with believing in yourself. Look for coaches and mentors around you; they are crucial for your growth. and have fun learning and experimenting as you grow.
