Job Description

Role Purpose

The Sr. BI Engineer is a core member of the agile teams implementing BI solutions. The Business Intelligence Authority engineer will be responsible to implement and develop BI solutions including data modelling and system development while guiding junior developers in fulfilling the same

Key accountabilities and decision ownership:

• Guides junior developers within the team and acts as a technical reference
• Translates business requirements into specifications used to implement the required reports and dashboards
• Develops Data Models designed by the Architects to extract and integrate data from various source systems with process documentation.
• Responsible for documenting Business Intelligence (BI) subject areas and integration processes
• Ensures that data implementations align with the enterprise Information architecture, and meet the applicable standards
• Creates reports to provide data analysis that fits for business needs and drives business decisions
• Responds to problems in databases, data processes, data products and services as they occur
• Investigates different data sources on the possible transport technologies (stream/batch, schedules/freshness)
• Collects, collates, cleanses, synthesises and interprets data to derive meaningful and actionable insights
• Maps systems and interfaces used to manage data

Core competencies, knowledge and experience:

• Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject
• 3+ years of experience working in the Business Intelligence field
• Working in international, distributed teams
• Experience of working on projects that span multi-disciplinary areas of differing size and complexity to meet business expectations and deliver results
• Confident and able to liaise and influence at all levels within Vodafone and/or relevant customer organizations
• Able to communicate effectively across organisational, technical and political boundaries, understanding the context
• Understands business requirements
• Drives improvements and process innovation

Must have technical / professional qualifications:

• Ability to work directly with business analysts and subject matter experts to map requirements, develop, and deploy solutions
• Solid understanding of Data Warehouse & BI concepts
• Understands the concepts and principles of data modelling and is able to produce, maintain and update relevant data models for specific business needs.
• Uses the most appropriate medium to visualise/present data to tell compelling and actionable stories relevant for business goals
• Good knowledge in Big Data and Data Science technologies
• Very good knowledge in BI solutions and designing dashboards, cubes, and KPIs
• Hands on experience with all aspects of software development including gathering requirements, analysis, design, dimension building, data loading, optimization and front end development
• Solid understanding of Management reporting requirements, cross functional KPIs and regulatory reports
• Expert proficiency in transformation and mapping using different BI tools
• Hands on experience in different ETL tools (Datameer is a plus)
• Hands on experience in different Visualization/Analytical tools (Splunk is a plus)
• Understands data governance and how it works in relation to other organisational governance structures
