Job Description
What you'll do:
‘With us, you can drive our digital ambition’
- In this role, you will have overall accountability for Digital Engineering within Ireland, building and leading our Engineering group locally.
- This includes Architecture, Development, Systems Portfolio, and SRE domains.
- You will focus on delivering for the local market in a globally connected way, acting as a local ambassador of the ‘build once, reuse multiple times’ concept.
- You will connect markets and common digital capabilities to achieve global outcomes of re-use and leveraging scale.
- You will be responsible for the overall delivery of the digital portfolio in the market, from integration with core IT to successful market delivery.
- You will work closely with the local CIO and manage exceptional stakeholder relationships with local Commercial Heads.
- You will drive industry best practices in a global engineering capability, ensuring a balance of local backlog delivery and global re-use and collaboration.Additionally, you will own end-to-end local finances of digital deliveries.
- You will build and lead a capable and empowered team of engineers, connecting across multiple markets with a shared, clear vision.
- You will manage local sourcing strategy and strategic vendor relationships to achieve goals of innovation, speed, and efficiency.
- You will connect global Software Engineering Acceleration initiatives across markets and create a Scaled Agile Delivery practice, defining agile principles and ways of working in the market, including Product Increment planning and governance aligned to the global engineering delivery model.
Who we are looking for:
- A proven track record of leading engineering teams with an in-depth understanding of the technologies, processes, and architecture required for delivering high-quality digital products at pace.
- Strong experience in leading and managing complex customer and stakeholder engagements.
- Extensive experience in one or more of the key engineering domains (e.g., app, web, chat, SRE, or cloud engineering).
- A deep understanding of the full software development lifecycle, including multiple delivery methodologies, with the ability to mentor, motivate, and shape high-performing teams.
- Experience in establishing scaled agile delivery teams, including setting up the concept of Release Trains and associated Release Train Engineers (RTEs).
- Leading knowledge, research, and evangelism across Vodafone and the wider industry.
- Leadership skills, particularly in team engagement, influence, communications, and relationship building.
- Delivery-focused with strong decision-making skills to drive alignment and agreement with key business and other internal stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead teams across multiple sites and multi-functional boundaries.
- Ability to collaborate among a globally distributed engineering organization with a mission to deliver customer value with sustainable speed through reusability, automation, and implementing best engineering practices.
- High energy and passionate individual who inspires teammates to reach their maximum potential.
- An enthusiastic interest in modern software engineering practices, tooling, technology, and techniques.
- Ability to drive a non-hierarchical culture of collaboration, transparency, and trust across the team.
- Excellent Programme and Portfolio management skills.
- Agile and Scrum Experience.
