Data Centre (YIOD)

The Vattenfall IT Data Centre department is accountable for Data Centres and Public Cloud services. Vattenfall IT has adopted a "cloud first" strategy. The Public Cloud Platform Services department is responsible for delivering Public Cloud services. For workloads that are not suitable for public cloud services, Vattenfall IT provides country-based Data Centres with traditional on-premise hosting platforms. Vattenfall IT is transitioning to Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) platforms, moving away from traditional hosting towards private cloud architectures and platform service delivery for workloads that require country or business-specific regulatory compliance.

Private Cloud Platform Services (YIODW)

Vattenfall IT Data Centre has established a new department to manage Private Cloud Platform Services. This department is responsible for overseeing the services, operations and ensuring the smooth functioning of the Private Cloud Platform. To streamline the operations further, the department has been divided into three sub-departments, each with a specific focus and responsibilities. The team primarily focuses on VMware, Windows, Linux server, and Storage service operations for the BLUE IT on-premise environments.

YIODWS is an operations department responsible for BLUE VPC and traditional hosting service operations.


What will you do?

As our new Operational Engineer (Storage) you will be responsible for managing the storage solutions in the Vattenfall datacenters. The Operational Engineer drives complex changes, actively supports new implementations, and cares for service improvement through problem management.

Furthermore, the Operational Engineer has also responsibilities related to Servers, Floor and Hardware Management, virtual and cloud environment and interconnection with other systems (e.g. Network, Data Bases etc). The Operational Engineer is responsible for the storage administration, SW and HW maintenance, disaster recovery protection and supports the deployment of new services works on operation concepts and with system and security.

Your tasks and responsibilities:

  • Daily Maintenance of our Storage systems, including participation in on-call and daily shifts.
  • Managing operational incidents including 1st and 2nd level, if needed.
  • Planning, coordinating and working on changes based on incidents or improvements in our environment.
  • Collaborating with other departments to ensure that IT operations are aligned with organisational goals and objectives.
  • Automating our storage operations.
  • Acting as a point of contact person for all technical questions regarding the storage related services and their components.
  • Coordinating and executing activities for service lifecycle management (planning, migrations, installation, upgrade and decommission).
  • Designing of infrastructure, based on application specific requirements.
  • Development and maintenance of technical documentation
  • Leading small size infrastructure initiatives
  • Participating in projects as a Storage specialist.
  • Joining improvement initiatives in the Storage area together with the team.
  • Collaborating with other departments to ensure that IT operations are aligned with organisational goals and objectives.
