Job Description

TUI Group is the world’s number one integrated tourism business. Mobile & Payments is a global team within TUI technology responsible for TUI’s Mobile apps and Global Payment solutions. We are a multi-disciplinary team of experts across Engineering, Architecture, DevOps and Agile Delivery providing services across the UK, Ireland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Austria, Belgium and The Netherlands.

We are looking for a talented and dedicated leader to join the newly formed Payments & Mobile technology organisation which looks after TUI’s Mobile applications and Global Payment solutions.

ABOUT THE JOB

  • As a Lead Android Engineer, you will be working with several cross-functional teams of Developers, Testers, Solution Architects, DevOps and SREs.
  • You are a hands-on developer, overseeing the overall stability of our Android platform.
  • You identify areas for improvement, own and maintain a technical backlog, and guide the team in the best way to solve issues.
  • You are a role-model for clean and maintainable code and instil a culture of continuous improvements.
  • You proactively engage with other Technical Team Leaders and Product Owners to help shape the future delivery roadmap – conduct proof-of-concepts; build prototypes; estimate future work; identify risks and dependencies; advise on best practices; form achievable delivery plans.
  • As a hands-on developer you produce SOLID, testable code in accordance with existing architecture-, design-, and code standards.
  • You evaluate and evolve these standards and practices, helping the team improve efficiency and robustness.
  • Key part of the role is ensuring the members of your team are growing within their area of expertise, acquiring new skills, doing valuable work, working well together, and feeling engaged and supported.
  • You will be responsible for identification and recruitment of new talent into your team, coaching and mentoring existing and new team members and their active career development.
  • You will focus on enabling effective decision making within your team and fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement.

ABOUT YOU

  • Proven leadership and team management skills. Positive, can-do attitude.
  • Open minded, inquisitive, life-long learner.
  • Working knowledge of the general mobile landscape, architectures, trends and emerging technologies.
  • Passionate about continuous improvement, collaboration and great teams.
  • Android development (Kotlin, Coroutines, Android SDK, Jetpack Compose, RxJava).
  • Working with RESTful APIs (Retrofit and OKHttp).
  • Keep upto date on latest Android trends and tools.
  • Experience using MVVM and familiarity with other Android Architecture patterns.
  • Solid understanding of Android UX/UI guidelines/best practices and the ability to engage with the creative team to deliver pragmatic solutions, balancing design, quality and velocity.
  • Flair for clean code, reusability, testability, readability, maintainability (SOLID, TDD, design patterns, architecture patterns).
  • Experience writing tests (unit, UI, mock) for functional, performance and accessibility testing
  • Solid understanding and practical knowledge of the full mobile development and application lifecycle.
  • Experience with mobile development issues related to performance optimisation, caching, security and native components / SDK’s.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, highly autonomous.
