Accounting is a function within our airline organisation responsible for providing an effective Financial Accounting service to a range of internal and external customers that helps to meet the strategic imperatives of the business. The role promotes collaborative team-working, improved co-ordination of activities and promotes improved ways of working. The Accounting function operates as a multi-disciplinary team of experts driving efficiency and innovation.

As the Finance Manager Accounting, you will be responsible for promoting compliance across the airline’s financial accounting processes, ensuring a robust balance sheet while identifying risks and opportunities as they emerge. You will apply your strong understanding of underlying accounting policies, processes, and systems in order to attain optimal financial outcomes for the business while preserving the integrity of the financial ledgers of Western Region Airlines.

This will be achieved by: authorising journals created by the wider business; reviewing and challenging the airline balance sheet while driving through improvements in quality and consistency of balance sheet reconciliations; leading on any technical accounting issues; deploying your expertise in supporting the TUI Airline Functional Finance teams through business and system changes; continuously reviewing and optimising routine activities; and promoting a culture of continuous improvement across your team and others around you.

You will be required to assist the Head of Accounting BeNe with the management of the airline relationship with the external auditors by managing the provision of schedules and supporting information, producing accounting and positioning papers to explain accounting decisions and their resultant impacts as required, and answering ad-hoc queries as they arise. Providing timely, complete, and accurate figures in order to give the board and management a reliable picture of the company’s financial position.

Other areas of responsibility include (but not limited to) the management and development of a team of accountants; liaising with Group accounting functions to explain movements in the airline accounts; the preparation of balance sheet forecasts including providing commentary and analysis to movements in the budget, forecast and actuals; facilitating correct intercompany accounting; providing input and challenge to the P&L forecasts and cash flow forecasts where required and assisting in work with Internal Audit teams to identify and correct sub-optimal internal controls and operating procedures.

In this role, you’ll report to the Head of Accounting BeNe.

ABOUT THE JOB

As Finance Manager Accounting, you’ll be responsible for:
• Coaching and guiding accountants, with regular team meetings
• Managing the team with a view to supporting them with there objectives
• Successful delivery of the month end process to facilitate accurate airline reporting in the Western Region
• Ensuring completion and review of assigned balance sheet reconciliations on a monthly basis
• Coordination of airline balance sheet reviews with key stakeholders across all airline areas to ensure accuracy & understanding
• Creation and presentation of balance sheet reporting pack to Head of Finance and Finance Director
• Ensure that company resources are used efficiently, correctly and according to the rules and guidelines imposed.
• Starting and supporting ad-hoc and planned airline project activity
• Support the delivery of internal and external audit deliverables
• Drafting and auditing annual accounts and tax returns
• Ongoing optimisation and automation of the existing processes
• Support the development of accounting and control across TUI Airline to ensure consistency, commonality and standardisation
• Monitor and control data input in order to ensure efficient reporting of correct data and make adjustments as required.
• Monitor, discuss, advise the monthly, quarterly and year-end closing to your responsible in order to maintain and ensure efficient accounting records
• Working in compliance with the company’s COSO rules and procedures

ABOUT YOU

• Bachelor degree
• Experience 3-5 years
• Ability to follow and challenge processes as well as adapt and promote change
• Analytical, accurate and number driven
• Strong attention to detail and experience dealing with large volumes of data
• Qualified professional with experience of financial/management accounting
• Comfortable and confident in use of Microsoft Office and SAP systems
• Ability to work under pressure and delivery to tight deadlines
• Experience of team leadership
