With our focus on growth in the UK and Europe, now is the perfect time to join us on this high-speed journey.

Job Description

Trainline is in a period of rapid scale with the People Team central to supporting the company’s ambition and growth plans.

We are looking for an experienced People Operations & Payroll Manager to lead our UK team.

If you’re successful in your application, you’ll be joining an enthused and high performing team, one which prides itself on providing stellar service at every stage of the employee life cycle, from on-boarding to off-boarding and everything in between.

Responsibilities

Reporting into our Head of People Operations & Systems, you’ll work on all things Payroll and HR, with responsibility for supporting employees across the business and helping to make Trainline a great place to work. You’ll provide high quality support in relation to both core HR and payroll processes and ad-hoc projects and quickly become an integral part of the team and wider business.

You will be responsible for:

  • The management of our out-sourced UK payroll, including:
  • Overseeing the administration and processing of the monthly payroll
  • Completion of Payroll reconciliations & sign-off.
  • Ensuring compliance in accordance with local regulations & audit controls & procedures
  • Managing the relationship with our external payroll vendor
  • Identifying and implementing improvements to Payroll processes
  • Leading & developing the UK People Operations team, ensuring efficient and effective People services for Trainliners, within our internal SLA timeframe.
  • Providing Trainliners with accurate and consistent support with regards to our policies, practices, and processes.
  • Focusing on transforming, building and maintaining effective HR and Payroll processes and policies with a tech first mentality and in compliance with local legislation.
  • Ensuring the integrity of People & Organisational data held within our HRIS (HiBob).
  • Work and lead on Ad hoc People Operations projects as required improvements to enhance the employee experience and People Team processes.
  • Working with People BPs to manage our lifecycle processes.
  • Champion data, metrics and insights and use HR data to enable the wider team to make value-add decisions.

Qualifications

We’re looking for a team player with a ‘roll your sleeves up’ attitude. A self-starter with a helpful, people-orientated demeanour and a high degree of integrity and confidentiality. Someone with a passion for maturing People Operations. Super-strong organisation and interpersonal skills are essential, and you’ll also bring the ability to work at pace and with agility.

Some with strong experience in Payroll management is crucial. We are looking for someone to own the relationship with our new out-sourced payroll provider in the UK who can bring in best practice processes and ensure a stable monthly payroll.

A HR qualification isn’t necessary - as long as you can demonstrate your interest in HR and show a comprehensive understanding of HR processes and policies, we’ll provide you with the necessary professional development to make you an HR superhero.

This is fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about HR, keen to work in a fast-moving, forward-thinking technology business, and looking to develop their career.

This is a role based in the UK but as we also support offices in France, Spain and Italy so experience of working with employees in these countries would be helpful but not essential.

Required Skills:

  • Proven Payroll experience with a knowledge of payroll regulations, standards, tax legislation and compliance requirements in the UK.
  • Experience in payroll in EU markets (Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Belgium) would be desirable.
  • Proven experience working within HR operations with a strong knowledge of HR best practices
  • Effective leadership skills and previous management experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent judgment and problem-solving skills with a pragmatic approach to providing solutions.
  • Experience leading HR projects and initiatives
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and data literacy.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite; specifically excel.
