Job Description

The Legal team has been instrumental in supporting the business through its continued expansion. Headed up by James Hanratty (a Legal leader in Digital & Technology), they have won several industry accolades in recent years including being shortlisted for the 2024 Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Award. Reporting into the Senior Legal Counsel (based in Milan), the focus of this role will be to provide international legal support, in particular to drive the growth of Trainline’s consumer proposition in Italy and Spain as well as playing a key role in the delivery of an ongoing strategy to be the go-to platform for international travelers across the UK and Europe. With significant business investment being put into our European business, this is an incredible opportunity to join Trainline at a time of exciting growth.

You will act as our Italian and Spanish market counsel lead and work closely with the Legal Consumer and Product team across multi-jurisdictional matters. You will be expected to have a good understanding of all areas of commercial law with a particular focus on the Italian and Spanish market, including consumer, e-commerce, advertising and marketing, data protection, IP, and commercial contracts.

Responsibilities

  • Providing Italian & Spanish legal advice in respect of consumer, e-commerce, advertising and marketing, data protection and intellectual property law and overall legal support to the Italian & Spanish brand, marketing, communications, SEO, PPC and product teams.
  • Working with the Legal, Consumer and Product team in respect of the provision of consumer and general legal advice in the Italian & Spanish markets (generally advising on strategic matters such as partnerships).
  • Providing overall legal support to activities related to our international customers, in particular-commerce, advertising and marketing and PR events.
  • Drafting, negotiating and interpreting commercial contracts, mainly in respect of Trainline acting as a customer when procuring services for the brand, comms and product and market research teams

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Significant experience in a similar role in an international setting.
  • Private practice and in-house experience preferred with a tech/online focus, ideally multi-jurisdictional.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced business.
  • Strong general understanding of consumer law, e-commerce law, advertising and marketing law, data protection law and commercial contracts.
  • Demonstrable team player and must be able to work cross functionally.
  • A significant degree of autonomy and responsibility will be expected with an ability to ‘self-start’ confidently and effectively.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, including in respect of senior management colleagues.
  • Attention to detail and ability to carry out in depth legal analysis but deliver advice in a concise, business friendly manner.
  • Effective organisational and prioritisation skills will be required to successfully manage your own workload and the business’ expectations.
  • Commercially astute.
  • Open to travel to our EU offices occasionally.
  • Fluent English and Italian or Spanish.
