In a world where foundational AI technologies are increasingly commoditized, it's the quality and diversity of human-generated data that truly differentiates products and models.

The role

We are looking for a dynamic and proactive Financial Controller to join the finance team at Prolific. This multifaceted role provides an excellent opportunity to enhance your technical expertise while contributing to key areas such as month-end processes, statutory reporting, and management accounts. You'll also collaborate closely with other business functions, driving cross-functional impact.

As a vital member of our team, you will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting and regulatory compliance, particularly as we expand our offerings to new customer segments and global markets. Additionally, you’ll play an important role in the evolution of our financial processes, ensuring they remain agile and aligned with the company’s rapidly changing needs. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and are eager to make a tangible impact, we’d love to hear from you!

What you’ll bring to the role

  • Demonstrated expertise in managing month-end processes and performing complex reconciliations.
  • Proven problem-solving skills, with the ability to reconcile data from diverse sources accurately and efficiently.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with experience working collaboratively within finance teams and across other departments.
  • Strong business acumen and a deep understanding of how finance can create value for the broader organization.
  • Track record of successfully managing multiple compliance and statutory reporting deadlines, such as VAT returns, CT600 filings, and audits.
  • Hands-on experience with consolidating financials across multiple currencies and entities.
  • A self-starter with the confidence to lead initiatives and drive process improvements.
  • Advanced analytical skills for identifying and resolving discrepancies in reporting data.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally and foster collaboration between teams.
  • Experience mentoring and developing junior team members, supporting their professional growth.
  • Comfortable in fast-paced, dynamic work environments.
  • Proficient in spreadsheet applications, utilizing advanced formulas to improve efficiency.
  • At least 1+ years of post-qualification experience (PQE) with professional finance qualifications (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA preferred)

Even better if you have

  • Experience working in a high growth tech startup/scale up
  • Knowledge of Google products, e.g. Google Sheets.
  • Experience building macros or leveraging SQL.
  • Experience of IFRS.
  • Experience of US reporting.

What you’ll be doing in the role

  • Oversee the month-end process through to the preparation of consolidated management accounts, ensuring accurate and timely completion.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and automate finance processes, proactively leading the implementation of efficiency improvements.
  • Collaborate with departments outside finance—including Sales, Customer Support, and Product—to ensure accurate and compliant transaction reporting across our platform.
  • Partner with external accountants to prepare statutory accounts under IFRS, including all necessary adjustments.
  • Work closely with the Head of Finance to manage the annual audit process, with support from the junior finance team.
  • Contribute to regular financial tasks, including VAT return reviews, pay runs, payroll, and expense processing.
  • Champion the adoption of new financial tools and systems to enhance department efficiency.
  • Participate in ad hoc projects based on evolving business needs.
