Job Description

At Mott MacDonald, we trust our brilliant people to do brilliant things in engineering, management, and development services, supporting multisector project work in over 150 countries. As one of the largest employee-owned companies in the world, we pride ourselves on our ability to deliver exceptional outcomes through our network of 20,000+ talented consultants. With sustainability and innovation at the heart of all our sectors in North America, including, Buildings, Energy, Transportation, and Water.

We believe in empowering our people to excel, learn, and grow, offering diverse opportunities to contribute to career-defining work. Join us and be part of a collaborative environment where your ambitions are united with ours, and you can truly shape your story.

If you share that vision, even if you don’t meet every requirement listed, we’d still love to hear from you. We value potential and diverse perspectives as much as experience. Let’s explore how we can support your growth and help you take the next step in your career, while contributing to an exciting new chapter for Mott MacDonald in North America.

We are looking for a project delivery leader who wants to improve the way complex infrastructure projects are planned, coordinated, and delivered. Based in New York City, this role will support major projects across the five boroughs, the wider New York metropolitan area, and the North America region. This is a market where transit reliability, rail capacity, airport access, water and wastewater resilience, coastal protection, energy transition, community impact, and delivery certainty all matter.

This role is for someone who understands how projects work in dense, highly coordinated urban environments; can bring people together across agencies, disciplines, contractors, and client teams; can plan the work; can solve problems; and can help project teams make better decisions through the practical use of digital tools, data, information management, BIM, GIS, automation, and connected delivery methods.

We welcome candidates with strong project delivery and project management experience who are ready to help teams work smarter, move with purpose, and deliver better outcomes for clients and communities. The right person will be curious, practical, collaborative, and confident working with technical specialists, project managers, discipline leads, public-sector stakeholders, delivery partners, and clients to turn complex New York delivery challenges into clear plans and better ways of working.

  • Our team provides digital delivery leadership and support to high-profile infrastructure engineering projects.
  • We combine project delivery experience, engineering understanding, digital expertise, and a strong team culture to help teams deliver with greater clarity, confidence, and consistency.
  • We are growing capability across North America and looking for leaders who want to help shape the next stage of that journey from New York City, one of the most complex and active infrastructure markets in the world.

About the role:

Your mandate is to lead and guide the application of digital delivery approaches on major projects in New York City and across the region. You will help project teams understand what they need to deliver, how information should flow, where digital methods can reduce friction, and how specialist digital workstreams should be planned and coordinated in fast-moving, multidisciplinary project environments shaped by dense urban conditions, complex interfaces, active assets, and high stakeholder expectations.

  • Work with project leadership, discipline leads, clients, and delivery teams to understand project challenges and translate them into clear digital delivery requirements.
  • Lead the planning and coordination of digital delivery workstreams, including information management, BIM, GIS, business intelligence, automation, project controls integration, and connected data environments.
  • Help project teams set up practical, repeatable ways of working that improve coordination, reduce rework, support better decisions, and create more reliable delivery outcomes.
  • Coordinate and guide technical specialists, including information managers, BIM managers, GIS managers, document control teams, data specialists, and automation leads.
  • Support proposals and major pursuits by helping define credible, delivery-focused digital strategies that respond to client priorities, project constraints, regulatory expectations, stakeholder complexity, and the realities of New York metropolitan infrastructure delivery.
  • Work closely with project managers and delivery leaders to ensure digital delivery is embedded in project planning, governance, risk management, commercial awareness, and day-to-day execution.
  • Bring structure to complex problems by developing clear plans, defining responsibilities, setting priorities, and helping teams move from discussion to action.
  • Build confidence across project teams by making digital delivery understandable, purposeful, and connected to real project outcomes in a city where coordination, transparency, and pace are essential.
  • Share lessons learned across projects so that good practice is reused and improved rather than recreated from scratch.
  • Mentor and support emerging digital delivery leaders and help grow the capability of the New York City and wider North America team.

You will also participate in the leadership of the Digital Services team. This includes:

  • Engaging with project, discipline, and business leaders to identify opportunities where digital delivery can improve project performance.
  • Supporting recruitment, development, and mentoring of digital delivery and project delivery talent.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across the North American Digital Delivery Network to build a practical, consistent, and project-led digital delivery culture.
  • Helping develop repeatable methods, playbooks, templates, and delivery models that support major project mobilization and execution.
  • Providing peer review, advice, and problem-solving support to projects that need digital delivery leadership.
  • Helping build a team culture that is open, accountable, inclusive, and focused on solving meaningful delivery challenges together.

This role is based in Mott MacDonald’s New York City office. We offer a hybrid work environment with flexibility to balance project, client, team, and personal commitments. Regular travel to client offices, project locations, and other Mott MacDonald offices is expected, reflecting the connected nature of project work across the five boroughs, the broader tri-state area, and the wider North America region.

Candidate Specification:

About you — you will be able to demonstrate most of the key qualifications and behaviours below:

  • Strong experience in project delivery, project management, design management, infrastructure delivery, or a related engineering/project environment.
  • Experience working on complex projects where coordination, planning, information flow, stakeholder alignment, and problem-solving were critical to success.
  • Ability to lead, plan, guide, and problem solve in a dynamic project environment.
  • Strong understanding of how projects are mobilized, planned, governed, delivered, and improved over time.
  • Awareness of how digital tools, data, information management, BIM, GIS, automation, and analytics can improve project delivery. Deep technical specialism is welcome but not essential.
  • Ability to translate between project delivery needs and technical digital solutions.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain complex ideas clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership and teamworking skills, with the ability to build trust, create momentum, and help people work together effectively across offices, disciplines, clients, and delivery partners.
  • Confidence working with senior project leaders, discipline leads, clients, and technical specialists.
  • Ability to challenge current ways of working constructively and help teams adopt better, more consistent delivery methods.
  • Strong organizational and management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple workstreams, set priorities, and keep progress moving.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to understand processes, identify root causes, and develop practical improvements.
  • Service-oriented mindset, with a focus on supporting project teams, improving delivery outcomes, and creating value for clients and communities.
  • Ability to work effectively with hybrid, remote, and multidisciplinary teams.

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be helpful but is not mandatory:

  • Information management, BIM, GIS, document control, data analytics, automation, project controls integration, or digital delivery management.
  • Common Data Environments such as ProjectWise, Autodesk Construction Cloud, BIM 360, SharePoint, Aconex, or similar platforms.
  • Standards and good practice such as ISO 19650, BIM Execution Plans, information management plans, model coordination processes, or digital delivery strategies.
  • Major transportation, rail, transit, aviation, tunnels, bridges, water, wastewater, energy, resilience, or other infrastructure projects typical of dense urban and regional networks.
  • Client-facing delivery, proposal development, project mobilization, or major project setup.
  • Experience working in New York City, the tri-state area, or another large, complex urban infrastructure market with multiple agencies, stakeholders, delivery partners, and public-facing constraints.
