Job Description

The future is quantum. Oxford Ionics is at the forefront of pioneering quantum computing, delivering world-leading innovation to create the most powerful, accurate, and reliable quantum systems. Quantum computing offers a radically new way of building computers that harnesses the power of quantum physics to outperform conventional supercomputers exponentially. Using our unique trapped-ion technology, we are leading the race to unleash quantum computing's unparalleled potential.

What to expect:

As the first dedicated sales and business development hire at Oxford Ionics, the Strategic Sales Manager will play a pivotal role in defining and executing our commercial strategy. This position is critical to driving growth by building and scaling a robust sales pipeline, developing strategic relationships with key stakeholders and closing high-value deals.

Leaning on your proven ability to understand and promote complex technology propositions, you will establish Oxford Ionics as a global leader in quantum computing by sourcing, progressing and closing opportunities. This role will also involve building a strong network within the quantum computing ecosystem, evangelising our groundbreaking solutions and contributing to the broader commercial vision of the business.

What you'll be responsible for:

You will build and manage a robust sales pipeline, identifying new opportunities within the quantum computing ecosystem. Leveraging your network and Oxford Ionics’ existing connections, you will cultivate long-term relationships with customers, partners and stakeholders, acting as a trusted advisor while clearly communicating complex technical concepts to diverse audiences. You’ll play a critical role in promoting the unique capabilities of our quantum solutions, driving new business and closing high-value contracts.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing sales strategies in collaboration with marketing, product and technical teams to align with company goals.
  • Conducting market analysis to understand customer needs, competitive positioning and industry trends, using insights to inform our commercial strategy.
  • Tracking and analysing sales performance to provide actionable recommendations that optimise the sales process and ensure continued growth.

This role will involve significant international travel to engage with the quantum community and build strong partnerships.

Requirements

We are looking for a proven sales professional with experience in technical sales, pre-sales, or business development within emerging markets or cutting-edge industries such as AI, HPC, cloud, or semiconductors. The ideal candidate will have a track record of building and scaling sales pipelines, particularly in startups or high-growth environments and success in selling complex technical solutions to diverse audiences.

Key requirements include:

  • At least 5 years of experience in sales with a demonstrable history of closing high-value contracts and structuring deals.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and engage senior customers.
  • A technical background or the ability to quickly grasp and articulate complex concepts.

Knowledge of the quantum computing market is desirable but not essential, but the ability to adapt quickly to this complex field is critical. The role also requires the flexibility to travel nationally and internationally to engage with customers and partners.

Benefits

Oxford Ionics is leading the way in quantum technology, and we need skilled, innovative individuals like you. We offer a range of benefits, including opportunities to further your career with a world-class team, business stock options, uncapped annual leave, flexible working, private medical and dental insurance for you and your family, and much more. Join us and be part of the future of quantum computing.
