Job Description

The future is quantum. Oxford Ionics is at the forefront of pioneering quantum computing, delivering world-leading innovation to create the most powerful, accurate, and reliable quantum systems. Quantum computing offers a radically new way of building computers that harnesses the power of quantum physics to outperform conventional supercomputers exponentially. Using our unique trapped-ion technology, we are leading the race to unleash quantum computing's unparalleled potential.

What to expect:

We’re searching for an IT Infrastructure Engineer to join our Operations team. This role offers the opportunity to manage and improve a wide range of IT systems and networks, ensuring seamless operations across the company. You’ll play a key part in maintaining critical infrastructure, solving complex technical issues and enabling the team to deliver cutting edge quantum technology. This is a unique chance to contribute to the scalability and success of a world leading quantum computing company.

What you'll be responsible for:

You’ll play an important role in managing and maintaining our IT systems and network infrastructure, ensuring seamless operations and robust support for our quantum technology. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Resolving complex technical issues, including troubleshooting and fault finding across a variety of systems and hardware.
  • Managing system administration, including user accounts, permissions and policies across platforms such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory and Microsoft 365.
  • Setting up and maintaining user accounts, devices and hardware such as network switches, firewalls and servers.
  • Monitoring and troubleshooting network services like VPN connectivity, routing and vLANs, while ensuring compliance with security policies.

You’ll also configure security settings, proactively manage backups and repair or replace infrastructure equipment to maintain optimal performance.

Requirements

You’ll need strong technical expertise and hands-on experience with a wide range of IT systems and tools. Key areas of knowledge include:

  • Google Workspace Suite, Microsoft Entra ID and Microsoft Azure.
  • Networking protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and vLANs.
  • VMware, Veeam Backup & Replication and PowerShell scripting for automation.

Familiarity with Linux systems (e.g. Ubuntu, Rocky) and hardware such as Dell PowerEdge Servers is also highly desirable. You should be proactive in problem solving, detail oriented and comfortable collaborating with team members across the business. Your ability to manage system administration, troubleshoot technical issues and maintain security compliance will be critical to ensuring the smooth operation of our IT infrastructure.
