Job Description

The Role

We are seeking an Intern Laboratory Assistant to join our Material Science laboratory and assist in analysing and testing our innovative, sustainable packaging materials. Our lab is equipped with a range of analytical instruments, including equipment for barrier tests of oxygen and water vapor, heat sealing, and tensile testing, with plans for further expansion.

As an intern, you will contribute to routine testing, support individual test requests, and assist with lab organisation under the guidance of the Lab Operations Lead.

This role is based onsite at our Holm office. This is initially a 6 month internship starting ASAP.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a cutting-edge Material Science lab while contributing to the development of sustainable packaging solutions. You will work closely with a supportive team in a dynamic, innovative environment.

How you'll help build one•fıve

  • Collaborate with the Material Science team to test and characterise sustainable packaging materials, supporting product development efforts.
  • Prepare samples and operate instruments for testing parameters such as oxygen and water transmission rates, tensile strength, material thickness, and surface roughness.
  • Assist in conducting individual test series for product tests or development.
  • Ensure quality control of raw materials and in-house produced materials.
  • Prepare samples for external measurements and coordinate their shipment.
  • Support the Lab Manager with organisational tasks such as placing orders, updating SOPs, and managing health and safety documentation.
  • Aid in quality assurance and equipment maintenance, including performing reference measurements and documenting results.
  • Maintain detailed records of all testing activities and generate standard reports.
  • Document all test activities and generate standard test reports

Who you are

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed studies in a relevant field (e.g., Material Science, Chemistry, or Biochemistry) or have equivalent practical experience in a lab setting.
  • Some experience or coursework involving laboratory techniques
  • Comfortable with accurate sample preparation and handling different types of testing procedures.
  • Enthusiastic about working with laboratory instruments and learning to troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Detail-oriented and organised, with a hands-on approach to lab work.
  • Interest in sustainability and packaging materials.
  • Basic IT skills to assist with digital lab processes.
  • Fluency in English is required; German language skills are a bonus but not necessary.

  • Acknowledge the process: we celebrate our failures and successes together, and keep iterating to improve
