Overview

Job Role: Major Projects Engineer

Salary: £60,000.00 - £66,600.00 (depending on experience) + 10% performance bonus

Working Location: Home based/London office based

Employment Type: Full-time, permanent/secondment

Job summary:

As a member of a multi-disciplinary professional team lead the engineering assessment of technical risks by the application of expert knowledge and understanding of NHBC Standards, Building Regulations, codes and national/European standards to complex, high risk and high value new build and conversion projects in London (and other major conurbations, as required).

Deliver an efficient and effective service on Warranty and Building Control jobs in accordance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure NHBC, customer and statutory requirements are met.

Assist in the management of the Major Projects team and the provision of management information.

Promote NHBC’s business objectives, manage customer relationships and assist in the acquisition and retention of major customers and/or large and complex projects.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead the engineering assessment of technical risk on complex, high-value new build and conversion projects
  • Provide expert advice on structural, geotechnical and land quality matters to developers and design teams
  • Ensure compliance with NHBC Standards, Building Regulations and relevant industry codes
  • Review and manage the checking of design details and technical submissions
  • Carry out site inspections and support project teams in managing engineering risk
  • Provide technical guidance to inspectors, surveyors and wider operational teams
  • Contribute to quality assurance through peer reviews and monitoring activities
  • Manage workload effectively to meet SLAs and deliver a high-quality service
  • Maintain compliance with health, safety and internal procedures
  • Support the Major Projects team, including deputising for senior leadership when required
  • Assist with reporting, and support training, coaching and mentoring of colleagues
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships, providing clear technical guidance
  • Resolve issues and manage stakeholder expectations effectively
  • Represent the organisation at industry events, seminars and working groups
  • Deliver technical presentations to internal and external stakeholders
  • Contribute to business growth by promoting services and identifying improvement opportunities

What we’re looking for

  • Extensive relevant design experience in the buildings sector.
  • Proven ability to make pragmatic and value decisions on compliance with Building Regulations and NHBC standards.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written with appropriate interpersonal and presentational skills.
  • IT literate with the ability to use a range of software programs.
  • Able to work with minimum of supervision in line with established policies and procedures.
  • Ability to innovate and seek solutions.
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of all aspects of superstructure and foundation design with regard to building structures.
  • Thorough knowledge of ground conditions and ground investigation techniques with regard to building structures.
  • Chartered membership of an appropriate professional institution.
  • Full driving licence.
