The Opportunity
As a Level 2 Maths Functional Skills Coach, you will be responsible for guiding Functional Skills learning for our most complex cohorts and clients through a mixture of workshops and personalised 1:1 support. Additionally, you’ll help drive innovation and growth within the Functional Skills team, acting as an early adopter of new products and processes, while supporting the development of resources that will scale the team’s impact.
The Functional Skills Maths Coach will be responsible for the successful delivery of accredited Maths qualifications as part of the Further Education programme for learners on apprenticeship or pre-apprenticeships . Delivery will take place online, using contemporary blended learning methods that encompass both 1:1 and group instruction.
Specifically, you will:
Deliver high-quality Functional Skills Maths training ensuring learners' timely and successful completion of apprenticeship programmes
Utilise diagnostic assessment tools to evaluate and track learners Maths skills and competencies, tailoring instructional strategies to meet individual and group needs
Regularly assess, monitor, and evaluate learner progress, making necessary adjustments based on data to ensure continued achievement
Identify and provide additional learning support to learners as needed, using Alternative Learning Needs and Additional Support Needs criteria where appropriate
Using data to target your coaching techniques and personalised learning support to drive the best outcomes for learners
Drive results in Functional Skills by strategically implementing interventions in collaboration with Delivery Coaches (apprenticeship programme coaches), ensuring learners remain on track and positioned for success in their programs.
Exhibit expertise in Functional Skills learning and coaching methodologies, confidently leading large-scale workshops and providing impactful one-on-one support tailored to individual needs.
Establish and nurture credibility with apprentices and peers alike, leveraging a rich blend of professional experience, program-specific knowledge, and industry insights to enhance every interaction
About you:
We’re looking for a passionate, experienced FS coach who thrives in a fast-paced, learner-centric environment. You’ll bring expertise in Functional Skills delivery and have the ability to inspire both learners and colleagues. Essential qualifications and experience include:
3+ years experience delivering Functional Skills in Apprenticeship Programmes, with a proven track record of learner progression and achievement
Strong experience in monitoring and tracking learner progress and outcomes using data-driven approaches
A minimum of Level 3 in Maths, with higher qualifications being advantageous
A recognised teaching qualification e.g. PGCE, QTS or equivalent.
Familiarity with relevant training standards and assessment requirements for Functional Skills delivery
Experience supporting diverse learners, including those with ALN/ASN, to achieve their full potential
Digital proficiency in delivering online learning, including the use of virtual learning environments and other relevant teaching tools
A proactive attitude towards change, adopting and championing new products, processes, and teaching methods
