We believe in empowering our people to excel, learn, and grow, offering diverse opportunities to contribute to career-defining work. Join us and be part of a collaborative environment where your ambitions are united with ours, and you can truly shape your story.

If you share that vision, even if you don’t meet every requirement listed, we’d still love to hear from you. We value potential and diverse perspectives as much as experience. Let’s explore how we can support your growth and help you take the next step in your career, while contributing to an exciting new chapter for Mott MacDonald in North America.

Are you passionate about complex underground infrastructure and eager to help shape some of the most significant transportation and tunnelling projects across North America?

We're looking for a Tunnel / Geostructural Engineer to join our growing Vancouver-based tunnels team.

This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives in a highly technical environment and enjoys tackling complex geotechnical and structural challenges. You will play a hands-on role in advanced analysis, numerical modelling, and design for underground infrastructure, working on projects that require innovative thinking and sound engineering judgment. From developing ground models and evaluating soil-structure interaction to designing critical underground structures, you'll have the opportunity to deepen your technical expertise while working alongside some of the industry's leading tunnelling specialists.

As a Tunnel / Geostructural Engineer, you will:

  • Contribute to the geotechnical, structural, and geostructural analysis and design of tunnels, shafts, excavations, retaining structures, and other underground infrastructure.
  • Develop engineering solutions for complex ground-structure interaction challenges and support the delivery of technically robust designs.
  • Interpret geotechnical investigation data, develop ground models, and establish engineering parameters to inform design and risk assessments.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, design drawings, and specifications in accordance with applicable codes and industry standards.
  • Build and analyze numerical models using industry-standard software to evaluate ground behaviour, soil-structure interaction, deformation, and stability.
  • Participate in site investigations, construction reviews, and field activities, gaining valuable exposure to project delivery and construction practices.
  • Collaborate closely with civil, structural, environmental, and construction teams to develop integrated design solutions.
  • Support project planning, design coordination, scheduling, and quality management activities to help deliver successful project outcomes.
  • Contribute to proposals, scope development, and engineering estimates for upcoming opportunities.

We are looking for candidates who bring with them the below set of skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering. A Master's degree in Geotechnical, Structural, Tunnelling, or Underground Engineering is considered an asset.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in British Columbia
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in geotechnical, structural, or geostructural engineering with a focus on tunnels, shafts, excavations, or other underground structures.
  • Proficiency with engineering analysis software such as PLAXIS, Rocscience, SAP2000, or similar tools.
  • Solid understanding of soil mechanics and soil-structure interaction principles, with an interest in expanding expertise across both geotechnical and structural disciplines.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • A passion for complex infrastructure projects and a desire to learn from and work alongside recognized leaders in the tunnelling industry.

At Mott MacDonald, our employees have a stake and a voice in our business, providing them with a direct connection to our success through our personal and group performance bonuses.

Multiple factors such as qualifications, overall experience and position responsibilities will be used to determine the successful candidate's actual salary within the expected range.

The expected salary range for this position is from $99,000 - $122,000.

This posting is for an existing vacancy.
