We value excellence in every dimension of our business and continuously seek opportunities to improve what we do and how we do it.

Whether you want to specialise or broaden your experience, you'll be supported by global specialists eager to share their expertise. With numerous opportunities to learn and grow, the possibilities are as diverse as our people. Working as a connected global team, we deliver impactful projects that shape the future.

Our Opportunity

We’re seeking a Technical Director – Environment to provide senior technical leadership, strategic direction and project oversight across a growing portfolio of environmental assessment, planning approvals and advisory work across our Energy, Water, Transport and Defence markets.

This is a senior opportunity for an experienced and motivated environmental professional to join our team and have a meaningful impact in shaping project outcomes, providing trusted technical advice, develop client and stakeholder relationships, and support the growth and development of our environmental planning, approvals and advisory capability. You’ll play a key role in leading technically challenging work across major infrastructure and development projects, while helping to mentor and develop environmental specialists across the team.

As part of an international consultancy, you’ll be connected to a global professional community, with opportunities to collaborate with specialists worldwide, influence best practice and contribute to projects locally, nationally and internationally. This role is suited to someone who enjoys combining technical excellence with people leadership, client engagement, strategic input and a strong commitment to delivering high-quality environmental outcomes for clients and communities.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Providing senior technical leadership across environmental assessments, planning approvals, environmental management and advisory projects.

  • Leading technical delivery, review and governance for complex environmental assessments, approval pathways, due diligence, constraints analysis and environmental documentation.

  • Acting as a trusted advisor to clients, authorities and project partners, bringing strategic insight, sound technical judgement and practical environmental advice to project challenges.

  • Overseeing multidisciplinary project teams to coordinate technical interfaces and ensure outputs are clear, practical, compliant and aligned with contractual obligations, client requirements and relevant legislation.

  • Preparing, reviewing and approving technical reports, environmental assessments, planning submissions, proposals, presentations, capability statements and client-facing materials.

  • Driving quality, risk management and commercial outcomes across projects, including programme, scope, budget and resource coordination.

  • Mentoring and developing environmental professionals, supporting technical capability growth, knowledge sharing and continual improvement across the Environment team and wider business.

  • Supporting work winning, client development, strategic partnerships and growth opportunities across environmental, sustainability and advisory services.

About you:

You’ll be an established senior environmental professional with deep technical expertise in environmental assessment, planning approvals and advisory work, combined with the commercial awareness, client focus and leadership capability expected at Technical Director level. You will have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in environmental planning, environmental science, or a related discipline.

  • Proven experience delivering environmental assessments, planning approvals and environmental advisory work across a range of markets.

  • Demonstrated experience leading complex technical projects and providing senior review, assurance and technical governance across environmental deliverables.

  • Committed attention to detail, strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare, review and approve clear technical reports, proposals, presentations, panel submissions and client-facing materials.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with clients, authorities, internal teams and specialist advisors.

  • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams and coordinating technical interfaces across infrastructure, water, energy, transport, defence or building projects.

  • A strong understanding of Australian environmental legislation, planning approval pathways and relevant state-based guidelines, with Queensland experience highly regarded.

  • Experience influencing clients, supporting business development, contributing to bids and identifying opportunities to grow environmental and advisory services.

  • A proactive, collaborative leadership style with a commitment to quality, safety, knowledge sharing, continual improvement and being part of a team.
