Job Description

Structural Engineer

Join Our Journey of Innovation and Excellence

At Mott MacDonald, we develop buildings that are safe, striking, efficient, and built to stand the test of time. Our building consultancy boasts a breadth, depth, and calibre of technical expertise that ranks among the best in the industry. Our Buildings team includes engineers in the primary disciplines of Structural, Civil, Building Services, and Façade engineering. We deliver projects regionally and contribute to the Group’s growth in the APNA region, utilizing a digital engineering approach to design and documentation. Our Structural team prides itself on knowledge sharing, mentoring the next cohort of engineers, and working together to deliver exciting and innovative solutions to projects.

The Role

We are looking for a Structural Engineer to join our high-performing team in Auckland, as part of our Built Environment sector. You will take responsibility for the design, documentation, and delivery of interesting projects across New Zealand, and have the opportunity to work closely and develop relationships with key clients, architects, and other industry partners. Along with being responsible for the technical quality on projects that you lead, you will also check the accuracy of the work from other team members. This role will involve mentoring and developing junior members of the team.

This role will see you:

  • Act as a Project Engineer on projects of various sizes, while supervising a small team of engineers and technicians.
  • Agree design philosophy/design fundamentals.
  • Review and comment on deliverables produced by Engineers & Technicians at key stages through a project.
  • Have knowledge of concept design, detailed design, construction techniques, procurement routes, risk assessment and claim assessment.

About You

You will have demonstrable experience in a range of interesting projects, and having chartered engineer status would be highly valued. Your varied experience in buildings projects, in-depth understanding of structural behaviour, and ability to manage design and construction stages of a project will see you succeed in this role. We are interested in hearing from engineers who are looking to grow into more formal leadership roles within our buildings team in the future.

You've Got This!

This is a great opportunity to join a global consultancy that is growing and making significant strides in the local market. If you are looking for an opportunity to work in a fast-growing business with an organisation that is shaping the communities in which we live, we encourage you to apply for this position and join our world-class consultancy.

Our Benefits

We offer you all the benefits that come from working in a global consultancy, including a competitive salary, flexible work arrangements, enhanced Kiwi Saver contributions, ongoing professional support, career development, and the chance to work on key projects. We are committed to fostering a culture that empowers our people, promotes teamwork, and embraces sustainability.

Equality, diversity and inclusion

We put equality, diversity and inclusion at the heart of our business, seeking to promote fair employment procedures and practices to ensure equal opportunities for all. We encourage individual expression in our workplace and are committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels they have the opportunity to contribute.

Agile working

At Mott MacDonald, we believe it makes business sense for you and your manager to choose how you can work most effectively to meet your client, team and personal commitments. We embrace agility, flexibility and trust.
