Brilliant people trusted to do brilliant things

Mott MacDonald is a vibrant and forward-thinking engineering, management, and development consultancy. Working together as a global team we plan, design, deliver and maintain the transport, energy, water, buildings, and wider infrastructure that is integral to people’s daily lives. We value excellence in every dimension of our business and continuously seek opportunities to improve what we do and how we do it.

We employ brilliant people who combine their diverse skills and experiences to achieve brilliant things. Whether you want to specialise or broaden your experience, you'll be supported by global specialists eager to share their expertise. With numerous opportunities to learn and grow, the possibilities are as diverse as our people. Working as a connected global team, we deliver impactful projects that shape the future.

Your Opportunity

We are searching for a Senior Facade Engineer to join our Buildings team in Sydney or Melbourne to support the multiple projects that are currently being delivered and for future projects we will be working on. Amongst the exciting projects our team is currently delivering are major aviation projects in Brisbane and Sydney, tertiary education facilities at the University of Sydney and a workplace building on Antarctica.

The ideal candidate will combine strong engineering fundamentals with practical façade consultancy experience, demonstrating the ability to develop technically sound, buildable, and high-performing building envelope solutions. They will be a collaborative team player with strong communication skills and a passion for delivering innovative façade outcomes across a diverse range of projects.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Undertake façade engineering calculations to support the design and delivery of building envelope systems, including structural performance, wind load assessments, thermal movement, deflection analysis, and compliance with relevant Australian Standards and project requirements.
  • Develop façade weatherproofing and detailing solutions that ensure long-term performance, durability, and protection against water, air, and moisture ingress while maintaining architectural intent and constructability.
  • Prepare high-quality technical specifications and design documentation for façade systems, including performance requirements, material selection, testing criteria, procurement documentation, and construction details to support project delivery.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams by attending and contributing to design coordination meetings with architects, structural engineers, contractors, and clients to resolve technical challenges and optimise façade solutions.
  • Conduct site inspections and construction monitoring activities to review façade installation works, assess compliance with design intent and specifications, identify quality issues, and provide technical guidance during construction.
  • Support façade design development across all project stages, from concept and proof-of-concept studies through detailed design, tender documentation, contractor review, testing, and construction phase services.
  • Review contractor submissions, shop drawings, and technical reports to ensure compliance with project requirements, industry standards, and project performance objectives.
  • Assist in the assessment and integration of façade performance requirements, including structural integrity, weather tightness, thermal performance, fire compliance, acoustics, durability, maintenance, and sustainability considerations.

About You

  • Degree qualified in Structural or Civil Engineering, with a strong understanding of structural design principles, building envelope systems, construction methodologies, and relevant Australian Standards. Candidates working towards or holding Chartered status will be highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated experience within a façade engineering consultancy environment, with involvement in the design, analysis, detailing, and delivery of façade and cladding systems across building projects. Experience collaborating with architects, contractors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout design and construction phases is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, with the ability to produce and review technical drawings, façade details, and design documentation. Experience using industry-standard design and modelling tools to support façade engineering and coordination activities will be advantageous.
  • Australian Citizenship is preferred, as some projects may involve clients or sectors with specific security, compliance, or access requirements.
  • Defence sector experience is highly regarded, particularly experience working on Defence infrastructure, secure facilities, or projects requiring compliance with Defence standards and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to prepare high-quality technical documentation, reports, and specifications, while confidently engaging with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders.
