Mott MacDonald is looking for a Senior Aviation Planner who is a flexible and motivated individual with a genuine passion for the aviation industry and a desire to make a difference in the world, with a special appreciation for sustainability.

You will be responsible for the following:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for aviation planning in North America, ensuring seamless integration with global practices and standards.
  • Lead and manage complex airport planning projects, including airfield, terminal, and master planning initiatives, from concept through delivery.
  • Oversee the use of design and simulation tools (AutoCAD Civil 3D, Infraworks, Navisworks, Revit, AviPlan, CAST) to produce accurate spatial planning and capacity analysis outputs.
  • Develop and implement sustainable planning strategies that align with client goals and industry best practices.
  • Supervise and mentor project teams, providing guidance and training to junior staff to build technical and leadership capabilities.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary resources and manage large workstreams, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and commercially successful.
  • Foster collaboration and teamwork across diverse technical disciplines and project stakeholders.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, drawings, and client presentations with exceptional attention to detail and clarity.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, identifying opportunities for follow-on work and contributing to business development efforts.
  • Apply methodical problem-solving and critical thinking to address complex planning challenges independently and efficiently.

We are looking for candidates with the following characteristics:

  • 10-15 years of experience in aviation planning specifically in airfield, terminals, or airport master planning
  • A degree in aeronautical engineering, civil engineering, architecture, air transport management, or airport planning or relevant field. Candidates with economics, sustainability, finance or business-related studies may also be considered.
  • Proficient in Word, PowerPoint and Excel (Power BI desirable).Ability to manage others to work efficiently in drawings platforms, such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Infraworks, Navisworks, Revit, etc. to produce airfield and terminal spatial planning outputs
  • Knowledge of simulation & modelling tools for airfield and terminal and the ability to manage others to use them to deliver capacity and demand analysis outputs such as AviPlan and CAST
  • Demonstrable professional experience in multiple technical fields within airport planning (airfield & apron, operations, terminal, landside, utilities, airspace, etc.) is expected and required.
  • Foster teamwork and collaboration in others as part of a multi-disciplinary team and a diverse range of projects.
  • Methodical problem solver with critical thinking, with the ability to work efficiently and independently.
  • Ability to organise, manage and supervise medium projects to large workstreams, including resources across various disciplines.
  • Expertise in project and programme management with contractual knowledge and the ability deliver commercially successful projects.
  • Ability to manage and supervise project teams, including the ability to train junior staff in developing new skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills, which allow you to confidently liaise with and present work to clients.
  • Ability to build and nurture client relationships, to identify and secure opportunities for follow-on work and win new prospects.
  • Excellent written communication and attention to detail, being able to produce accurate technical drawings and professional reports.

Multiple factors such as qualifications, overall experience and position responsibilities will be used to determine the successful candidate's actual salary within the expected range.

The expected salary range for this position is from $125,000 - $153,000
