We are looking for an experienced and passionate Mechanical Engineering Lead to join our Built Environment team in Toronto. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a diverse portfolio of projects across both the private and public sectors, including major infrastructure and framework developments. As the successful candidate, you will have a strong background and proficiency in Mechanical Engineering design and good all around technical competencies. In addition to understanding building services and other core construction disciplines like civil, architectural and structural.

As our Mechanical Engineering Lead, you will typically be responsible for:

  • Prepare and review project documentation, including basis of design, technical specifications, procurement specifications, assessment reports, and survey reports—each tailored to the appropriate project stage and covering all aspects of mechanical services.
  • Conduct detailed surveys of mechanical systems and equipment to assess existing installations and gather data necessary for recommending new or upgraded design solutions.
  • Produce and review mechanical design drawings and detailed calculations for systems such as HVAC, water supply, and drainage.
  • Develop accurate fee estimates for project work elements.
  • Provide expert advice on energy consumption and utilization, including recommendations to enhance energy efficiency and sustainability.
  • Oversee design and project management of building services components, ensuring delivery within agreed timelines and quality standards.
  • Ensure adherence to Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, current legislation, and all applicable engineering standards throughout project execution.
  • Develop resourcing plans for projects and manage team utilization effectively across the mechanical engineering group.
  • Prepare and implement growth strategies for the team, including training and career development plans for mechanical engineers.
  • Work closely with discipline leads and the Built Environment Lead to shape team strategy and contribute to organizational goals.
  • Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring client satisfaction and identifying opportunities for business growth.
  • Lead projects from feasibility through completion, providing guidance and technical leadership to support teams.
  • Develop resilient infrastructure solutions that leverage digital technologies and tools for enhanced performance.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to deliver integrated project solutions.
  • Maximize project profitability by monitoring budgets, anticipating risks, and maintaining transparent communication aligned with client expectations.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary proposals for transit and built environment projects, ensuring competitive and comprehensive submissions.

To be considered for this role, you will possess the skills, experience and qualifications below:

  • Minimum of 15 years managing diverse projects, including those within the built environment and transit sectors. Experience in aviation and nuclear projects is considered a significant asset.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Building Services Engineering with a specialization in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Must be a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in the province of Ontario or eligible to obtain registration within 12 months of hire.
  • Strong understanding of current building codes, regulations, legislation, and standards relevant to building and infrastructure design environments.
  • Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience with industry-recognized software and mechanical design tools, such as NBS Chorus, IES, and HAP.
  • Demonstrated experience and working knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) processes and tools.
  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and make confident decisions.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment, fostering strong relationships with internal teams, external partners, and subcontractors.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills combined with a positive, professional attitude.

The expected salary range for this position is from $152,000 - $186,000.

Multiple factors such as qualifications, overall experience and position responsibilities will be used to determine the successful candidate's actual salary within the expected range.
