We are looking for a talented, motivated, and experienced Geotechnical Field Engineer/Inspector (Construction Support) to support an iconic construction project in GTAA. In this position, you will work alongside our Senior Geotechnical and Structural Engineers (EORs) to review construction field activities, to ensure they are in accordance with the design requirements.

As an Field Engineer/Inspector (Construction Support), your responsibilities would include:

  • Providing inspection services during the construction of multiple elements of this critical project – in particular including:
    • Release of hold/witness points (inspection and verification of subgrade, proof roles, cleanliness of drilled shafts etc.)
    • Monitoring of field activities (piling, ground improvement, shallow footings, material placement, excavations/shoring, trenching and backfilling, earthworks, reinforced earth construction, dewatering, monitoring and instrumentation etc.)
    • Review of construction records (material testing, compaction testing, general quality records etc.)
    • Upholding our commitment and culture to quality work and a healthy and safe work environment
  • Review of test plans and work plans as they relate to the design requirements/intent.
  • Preparing daily shift reports documenting HSE, work progress, hold and witness points, and overall quality of work performed during each shift. Shifts are typically 8 to10 hours/day 5 days/week with occasional requirements for extended hours, night work, weekend work and/or a 6-day workweek to support the construction schedule.
  • Working collaboratively with the Engineering, the Contracting Authority and Contractor teams to support delivery of multiple elements of this critical project. Responsibilities include reviewing submittals and requests for information (RFIs), coordinating and managing Engineer inspections, monitoring contractor performance, witnessing construction activities and providing sign off at construction hold points and communicating key issues to the relevant project teams.

The candidate must have the following experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant industry / project experience / construction experience, particularly for supervising construction of deep and shallow building foundations and Geotechnical Engineering (full-time site experience would be considered an asset).
  • Experience of working within an operational airport would be considered as an asset.
  • Experience putting design plans into practice on construction sites.
  • Effective oral and written communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills; ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of staff and clients, and nurture the development of junior staff.
  • Ability and enthusiasm for supervising the work of others, including check and approval of key deliverables.
  • An academic background, including Bachelor’s degree and/or Diploma in Civil or Geotechnical/Geological Engineering would be considered as an asset.
  • Candidates must be able to work up to 10 hour days, Monday – Friday and be flexible to support project requirements including potential night shifts.

The expected salary range for this position is from $99,000 - $122,000.
