Job Description

At Mott MacDonald, we are driven by purpose and powered by brilliant people. As a trusted engineering, management, and development consultancy, we work with clients to solve complex challenges and deliver sustainable outcomes that make a meaningful difference for the communities we serve.

When you join us as an experienced professional, you will bring your expertise to work that matters while continuing to grow your career. You will collaborate with talented colleagues across disciplines and geographies, contribute your perspective, and help shape better outcomes through technical excellence, innovation, and integrity.

Build on your experience while helping shape what comes next. At Mott MacDonald, you'll work alongside talented people on complex and rewarding projects that make a real difference. We value fresh perspectives, encourage collaboration, and provide opportunities to expand your skills, take on new challenges, and grow your career. Whether you're deepening your technical expertise, broadening your leadership experience, or exploring new opportunities across our business, you'll be supported by a team that is committed to helping you succeed.

Mott MacDonald is seeking a skilled and motivated environmental scientist to join our New York City office. In this role, you will collaborate with a team of dedicated professionals to plan and design local and regional projects throughout the Northeast. Your work will focus on flood mitigation, sustainable design and reporting, municipal water transmission and distribution, and wastewater collection.

With guidance from our team of professionals, your responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed technical reports
  • Perform site inspections and investigations, and monitor contractor and regulatory compliance
  • Develop regulatory permit applications for flood mitigation, water and wastewater infrastructure projects
  • Support clients in meeting applicable regulatory requirements and performance metrics
  • Coordinate technical work with members of the engineering and construction teams
  • Actively participate in project, client, and team meetings
  • Review, prepare, and revise technical reports and project documentation
  • Interpret reports, specifications, and studies and incorporate relevant findings into studies and designs
  • Strengthen your organizational and project-delivery skills as you progress toward project management responsibilities
  • Actively participate in our Early Careers Professional Network

We welcome applications from candidates who meet the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Studies
  • Zero to two years of experience in engineering consulting
  • Excellent communication and technical writing abilities, strong organizational skills, and strong technical aptitude
  • Advanced use of Microsoft Office (specifically Word, Excel, MS Projects, and Teams), Power BI, sustainability reporting tools and Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

Bring your expertise, curiosity, and drive to make a difference. If you are ready to join a collaborative consultancy where your perspective is valued, your growth is supported, and you are empowered to lead with integrity, we would love to hear from you.
