About the Role

Mott MacDonald is looking for an Environment, Sustainability & Waste Consultant to join our UAE team. We are looking for someone who is curious, adaptable, and keen to learn in a fast-pace multidisciplinary environment to support projects across different sectors and territories, of varying uniqueness and complexities. The successful candidate will support environmental, sustainability and waste assignments as project needs arise, gaining exposure to different sectors, clients and geographies. This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading engineering and management consultancy with a strong reputation across the Middle East.

Key responsibilities and duties are listed, but not limited to, the below:

Project Delivery

  • Support the delivery of environmental, sustainability and waste consultancy projects, working under the guidance of senior team members and alongside multidisciplinary project teams.

  • Support project initiation and planning activities, including helping to define tasks, deliverables, responsibilities, programmes, information requirements and internal review points.

  • Assist project managers with day-to-day project controls, including progress monitoring, programme updates, budget and resource tracking, risk and issue registers, change control and reporting.

  • Coordinate multidisciplinary inputs, follow up actions and dependencies, maintain organised project records, and support document control and quality assurance processes.

  • Prepare and review technical reports, calculations, presentations, meeting materials and other project deliverables in line with relevant regulations, standards and good practice.

  • Organise and support project meetings and workshops, including preparing agendas and materials, recording decisions and actions, and monitoring their close-out.

  • Communicate progress, emerging risks, constraints and support needs clearly and promptly to project managers and relevant team members.

  • Liaise professionally with clients, contractors, authorities and internal teams, and participate in project meetings, workshops and site visits as required.

  • Apply quality, health, safety and environmental procedures consistently, seek guidance when needed and contribute to high-quality, accurate deliverables.

  • Be flexible in supporting different disciplines and priorities across the department, contributing positively to a collaborative team culture.

Technical Excellence

  • Undertake research, data collection, data analysis, benchmarking and literature reviews, and translate findings into clear technical outputs.

  • Contribute to sustainability, ESG, climate change, decarbonisation, waste management, circular economy and green building/certification projects, supporting technical analysis, assessments and recommendations.

  • Build knowledge across environment, sustainability and waste, keep up to date with emerging regulations and industry practices, and actively participate in training and knowledge-sharing activities.

Business Development

  • Support bids, proposals, capability statements and other business development activities across the department, including coordinating inputs and assisting with programme and resource information.

  • Develop an understanding of Mott MacDonald’s services, clients and markets, and support opportunities to strengthen client relationships and contribute to future work opportunities.

Candidate Specification:

Core requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, Environmental Management, Waste Management, Chemical Engineering or another relevant discipline.

  • Relevant experience is desirable; strong graduates with relevant academic, internship or placement experience are also encouraged to apply.

  • A broad interest in environmental, sustainability and waste topics, with a willingness to develop capability across all three disciplines.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with confidence working with qualitative and quantitative information.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, accurate and well-structured reports and presentations.

  • Good organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage several tasks, meet deadlines and communicate early when support is needed

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • A proactive, curious and adaptable approach, with a genuine desire to learn and contribute within a fast-paced, dynamic team.

  • Willingness and ability to travel for project meetings, workshops, site visits and fieldwork where required.

Advantageous requirements

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field would be advantageous.

  • Experience supporting sustainability certification projects such as LEED, Estidama, Mostadam.

  • Experience with data analysis or digital tools would be advantageous.

  • Awareness of regional environmental requirements, sustainability standards, waste management principles or certification systems would be advantageous.

  • Arabic proficiency would be advantageous.
