We are currently seeking a Principal Project Manager - Civil in our New York City office leading complex infrastructure projects, overseeing multidisciplinary design teams, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, and managing client relationships. The individual in this position will be responsible for successfully delivering projects from planning through construction, support business development, and provide technical leadership across roadway, bridge, transit, energy, and urban infrastructure programs.

As a Principal Project Manager - Civil, you’ll have the opportunity to work closely with our existing talented engineers on some of the largest projects locally and across the country. Often working alongside a multi-disciplinary team, your projects will primarily be focused on New York City and across the East Coast for some of the area’s biggest clients.

Job Duties Includes but not limited to;

  • Act as discipline task lead and coordinate with staff to ensure ongoing communication, project progress, and quality deliverables.

  • Supervise staff, perform quality control checks, maintain quality standards in all work produced, checking calculations, and/or review designs and drawings performed by others.

  • Prime lead in the development of project scopes, resource estimates, budgets, and schedules, ensuring alignment with client expectations and project objectives.

  • Lead and oversee the development of Civil designs, including roadways, utilities, grading, maintenance and protection of traffic, survey review, and drainage systems.

  • Research and develop feasible design solutions that meet client needs, regulatory requirements, and applicable engineering standards.

  • Perform engineering analysis and calculations related to horizontal and vertical alignment, cross-sections, and roadside safety features.

  • Understand and analyze the results of preliminary studies such as traffic and environmental impacts and develop feasible concepts to resolve issues.

  • Ensure that civil designs comply with all applicable state and federal standards, including requirements from transportation agencies such as the New York State and New York City Departments of Transportation, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the Port Authority of NY & NJ, and the New York State Thruway Authority, as well as regulatory agencies such as the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

  • Collaborate with the design team to develop detailed design documents for milestone submittals such as preliminary design, Advance Detail Plans, Environmental permitting, Right-of-Way Plans, PSE, and construction plans.

  • Meet project deliverable schedules and budgets for assigned projects.

  • Monitor resource budgets and schedules for assigned tasks/projects.

  • Assist project managers in monthly reporting.

  • Understand the Mott MacDonald resource/skill network to ensure assignments and portions of the project design are being developed by the correct resources.

  • Support marketing and business development initiatives.

  • Lead and oversee the development of proposals regarding the civil design for transportation projects.

  • Engage with clients, ensuring excellent and professional interactions.

  • Oversee the development of transportation projects in OpenRoads and Civil 3D along with other automated/digital design tools.

  • Be current on transportation agencies efforts to employ digital delivery.

  • Oversee the training and mentorship of junior staff.

  • Must have the ability to work on multiple unique assignments simultaneously.

Qualifications:

  • A BS degree in civil engineering.

  • 15+ years of experience in civil design and design management, including roadway drainage/grading, utilities, and site development.

  • Experience in maintenance and protection of traffic.

  • A New York State PE license.

  • Proven experience in leading diverse teams, managing resources, and projects.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Familiarity with Federal Highway Administration, New York State and New York City Departments of Transportation, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and the Port Authority of NY & NJ standards and procedures.

  • Proficiency with MicroStation and Open Roads; AutoCAD and Civil 3D, P(6) scheduling tools, drainage design.

  • High quality interpersonal skills, including organizational and attention to detail.

Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.

The expected salary for this position is $190,000 - $232,000.
