Job Description

We are seeking a Assistant Signalling Engineer to join our team in Noida / Bangalore to support the delivery of signalling design across feasibility, option selection, scheme development, and detailed design. Working within the PACE delivery framework (Engineering Stages 1–5), you will contribute to signalling production tasks under the guidance of Senior Designers, Principles Designers, Verifiers and CREs.

The candidate needs to demonstrate working knowledge of UK Signalling design principles through early career experience or formal training, and the candidate will be actively progressing through the IRSE Licensing Scheme. Your focus will be on high‑quality design production, supporting assurance activities, and learning to apply signalling standards consistently across multidisciplinary railway projects.

Job Location : Noida / Bangalore

Responsibilities:

  • Produce signalling design deliverables such as plans, schematics, control table inputs, cable route plans and associated documentation under supervision.
  • Support multidisciplinary engineering coordination, contributing to integrated solutions across P‑Way, OLE, Civils, Telecoms and Systems Engineering teams.
  • Ensure designs follow applicable standards and governance, working within railway group standards, Network Rail processes, CDM/CSM requirements and Mott MacDonald’s internal design procedures.
  • Participate in checking workflows, undertaking production checks where authorised and supporting review cycles led by Principles Designers or Verifiers.
  • Engage with digital tools and design automation, including CAD, BIM workflows, and internal digital design initiatives.
  • Work under IRSE mentorship, contributing to your competency development and maintaining evidence through logbooks and structured learning.
  • Support option selection, feasibility assessments and early-stage engineering through preparation of drawings, survey inputs and technical data collation.
  • Assist CREs and senior designers by preparing interface documentation, compliance evidence, and updates to design records and configuration control items.

Candidate Specification

Qualifications:

  • An electrical engineering degree or alternatively, a suitable rail industry recognised qualification (HNC/HND).

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • 2-4 years of relevant experience
  • Institution of Railway Signal Engineers 1.1.510 Signalling Designer License
  • Understanding of signalling design fundamentals including aspects, routes, interlocking concepts and design outputs.
  • Demonstrated experience producing signalling design deliverables within your area of competence.
  • Strong communication skills, able to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • A proactive and organised working approach with commitment to quality, accuracy and following structured processes.
  • Exposure to rail enhancement or renewals projects, with awareness of operational and engineering interfaces.
  • Positive and proactive approach towards knowledge sharing, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to communicate confidently and professionally with all levels of staff and clients (written and verbal).

Desirable Competencies / Skills:

  • Exposure to Metro, Light‑Rail or Tram‑Train signalling design.
  • Early exposure to ETCS or digital signalling concepts
  • Understanding of design governance frameworks and assurance processes, ideally through participation in design reviews or compliance checks.
  • Evidence of supporting technical meetings, design workshops or cross‑discipline discussions.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving project requirements, contribute to problem solving and manage multiple tasks in fast‑paced environments.
  • Growing familiarity with international transport practices or interest in wider global rail systems.
  • Ability to work as part of a team is a must with ability to work unsupervised or minimum supervision.
  • Engage in continuous learning to stay updated with industry trends.
