Our buildings team has a wealth of experience in supporting clients at the early stage of infrastructure and built environment projects. Our clients include national and local Government departments, developers, investors, and infrastructure operators.
Our work involves engaging with our clients to facilitate delivery of their projects. Those projects can involve the construction of new buildings, the development and optimisation of their existing estate as well as a huge number of other opportunities. With the specific skillset of engineering expertise and project management there is a vast opportunity in Mott MacDonald on a huge variety of projects.
As part of our commitment to creating social outcomes we partner with our key clients to improve the performance of their estates. This includes working with them to modify buildings to minimise energy demand and support net zero carbon operation, in order to address the climate emergency.
As a graduate in one of these teams, you will support with the following activities:
Engaging with clients, end users, statutory bodies, and other key stakeholders
Project programming
Options appraisals and feasibility Studies
The coordination and management of engineering disciplines and design.
Financial planning and management
Contract administration
Developing client relationships
Working as part of a team of advisory consultants, and supporting other members of the team
Rail Project Manager – Altrincham, Manchester
As a member of the Project Management Team, you will work within a team developing and delivering Rail projects from inception to handover and completion. This will include scheme definition, feasibility, design development, procurement and Contract Administration.
Your role will require you to liaise closely with multiple stakeholders and clients, co-ordinate multi-disciplinary design teams, draft and manage the production of reports and tender documents, monitor cost and schedule and manage the Health & Safety and Quality Assurance aspects of projects.
You will be confident in contributing to a technical team and as a key member of a project team, liaising directly with the client, project sponsors and key stakeholders when necessary.
Energy - Transmission & Distribution – Brighton, Cambridge, Glasgow and Manchester
As a Graduate Project Manager in our Transmission and Distribution team, you’ll play a vital role in delivering projects that keep energy accessible and networks resilient as the UK accelerates toward Net Zero. You’ll be part of a forward-thinking team, supporting the development and delivery of major energy infrastructure projects from inception to completion.
Your journey will include:
Project Lifecycle Involvement: Contribute to scheme definition, feasibility studies, design development, procurement, and contract administration for large-scale investment plans.
Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise closely with clients, sponsors, and a diverse range of stakeholders—including utilities, transmission operators, EPC contractors, and regulatory bodies—to ensure project success.
Team Collaboration: Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams, manage the production of reports and tender documents, and support the delivery of high-quality, innovative solutions.
Project Controls: Monitor project cost and schedule and uphold the highest standards of Health & Safety and Quality Assurance.
Energy - Nuclear and Defence – Altrincham and Glasgow
As a Graduate Project Manager in our Nuclear team, you’ll play a vital role in delivering safe, sustainable, carbon-free power for communities across the UK. Our teams support both the development of new nuclear power projects and the safe decommissioning of legacy sites, ensuring a positive, long-term impact on society and the environment.
You’ll be part of a trusted network that understands the complexities of nuclear technology and is committed to the highest standards of safety, innovation, and integrity.
Your journey will include:
Project Lifecycle Involvement: Support projects from initial scheme definition and feasibility through design development, procurement, and contract administration, ensuring robust planning and delivery.
Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with clients, regulators, technical experts, and community representatives to build strong, collaborative relationships and deliver shared goals.
Team Collaboration: Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams, manage the production of technical reports and tender documents, and contribute to the delivery of high-quality, innovative solutions.
Project Controls: Monitor project cost, schedule, and risk, while upholding the highest standards of Health & Safety, Quality Assurance, and environmental stewardship.
Technical Contribution: Help deliver projects that advance clean energy, support safe decommissioning, and drive innovation in nuclear technology.

Candidate Specification

To be eligible for this opportunity, you will have less than 12 months’ relevant experience (excluding placements) and have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree (obtained no earlier than 2024) or expected to achieve one of the following degree disciplines:
Construction Project Management
Construction Management
Engineering Discipline
Environmental Project Management
Quantity Surveying (for buildings)
