About the business unit
We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and advising on related issues - such as revenue, procurement, and environmental legislation - to delivering the completed infrastructure and helping maintain it. Our planning, engineering, environmental, and management skills cover the whole project cycle. We play a major role in developing and delivering the Global Transport Sector Strategy.

About the role
Due to continued growth, the Rail Operations team is recruiting a Rail Operations Consultant to join a friendly and dynamic team focused on delivering Rail Operations and Traffic Management expertise throughout the UK and Global Transport markets.

As a Rail Operations Consultant, you will collaborate across the wider Mott MacDonald group, with experienced professionals both in the UK and internationally delivering a diverse project portfolio. Some of our key customers include: The DfT, Network Rail, Local Authorities, HS2, and various Train and Freight Operators.

Based in either of our Birmingham, Derby, Glasgow, Manchester, Sheffield, or York offices, you will be responsible for Rail Operations input into our project portfolio across the transportation sector.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Technical Analysis in the field of Rail Operations
  • Production of technical reports throughout the project lifecycle
  • Lead and contribute to Rail Operations input to multi-disciplinary projects
  • Interface with Clients and external stakeholders

Candidate specification
We are looking for a Rail Operations professional with relevant consultancy experience in the field of Rail Operations.

Essential:

- Expertise in rail operational planning, timetable production, capacity analysis, performance assessments, and modelling
- Competent operator of rail operational planning software packages including Railsys, ATTune, TrenoLAB
- An appreciation of the wider rail engineering disciplines offering a whole system approach
- Understanding of how changes in signalling technologies (such as CBTC and ETCS) and the development of a more digitally connected railway (ARS/CDAS/TMS) will impact aspects of Railway operations
- Experience of dealing with external stakeholders, customers, and clients
- Experience across the Network Rail PACE and SPEED frameworks

Desirable:

  • International experience and knowledge of Transport Markets across Republic of Ireland, North America, Australasia & the Middle East
  • Strategic Operational knowledge covering Operations Concepts, Traincrew Strategies, and Network Access
  • Experience of Metro, light-Rail, and Tram Train transport modes
  • Experience of control rooms and signaller operations
