Principal Marine EIA consultant
Job Description
About the division
Environmental and social considerations are central to Mott MacDonald’s Purpose and its offerings across all sectors and territories. Our environment and social business provides essential services and innovative solutions which anticipate our clients' needs across all sectors.
Overview of the role:
We are expanding our Marine Team and seeking support for our UK and international marine assessment, spatial planning, consenting and specialist assessment work. This role will allow the individual to play their part in shaping quality development that supports the national net zero commitments whilst integrating nature so that together with our clients we can build a better future.
We pride ourselves on setting and maintaining high standards and are at the forefront of providing sound environmental advice. Our team has successfully supported our clients in delivering projects in sectors including renewables, water, ports, flood risk management, and the public sector. In doing so we have supported planning applications through different regimes (TWAO, TCPA, DCO) including studies to inform HRA, BNG, and WFD assessments. We have completed largescale marine spatial planning exercises, as well as being involved in specialist studies to support regulators in their statutory activities to safeguard marine environments.
Although we work in consenting, permitting and licencing support for complex maritime infrastructure developments we also recognise the importance of smaller specialist commissions in maintaining a breadth of skills and expanding the knowledge within our team.
As part of our growing team, you will have the opportunity to work on a range of interesting and challenging projects both in the UK and beyond. Understandably, as there is a pressing need to advance the delivery of projects to transition our energy supply, there is a focus on renewables including offshore wind and cable landfall, port adaptation in addition to innovative marine spatial planning, and smaller studies understanding challenges to meeting UK Marine Plan objectives.
The projects you will be working on may span all stages of a project’s life cycle, from feasibility and business cases studies, design development to post consent implementation; giving opportunities to positively influence design, developing meaningful mitigation and enhancements and promote best practice.
You’ll be part of integrated teams taking projects through licencing and consenting processes including DCO, providing strategic advice to clients, and ensuring that projects are delivered to schedule and budget. You will help to maintain and enhance existing client relationships, as well as helping to develop business with new clients.
You will support more junior members of staff, including as a line-manager if people management is an area you are interested in developing. You could also progress your project management experience if this is an area you are keen on.
Joining our team at a Principal level will mean office and client office based working, but may also allow for involvement in some site work, especially in your area of technical expertise and managing specialist sub-contractors.
Although you will be a member of the Marine Team, you will also be connected to a much larger team of environmental specialists from ecologists to climate and carbon specialists. There are excellent opportunities to progress your career through promotion, as well as developing a key role within our business.
The role will suit a dynamic, proactive team-player who wants to work in a growth area of the business and help support the delivery of marine environmental services in a fast-moving, client-focused, commercial environment.
