Overview of role

Working closely with the IT Leadership and Management teams, IT Project Managers, IT Business Analysts, IT Project Portfolio Management Specialists, IT Resource Managers, and various customers of IT implementation services, internal and external to IT, you will manage a team of IT Project Managers, ensuring their personal development needs are met and that IT projects are being delivered effectively.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for managing IT projects for approximately 50-70% of their time. It is expected that they act as a role model in successful project management and delivery. This includes shaping the project plan with technical leads, tracking, and adjusting plans to ensure smooth delivery, managing and escalating project risks, managing resources (including third-party contractors or consultants), project documentation, and project plans to successfully deliver IT projects.

The IT project management team lead will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our project management standards are being met and that projects are being delivered appropriately to our customers.

Key duties and responsibilities include

  • Manage a team of IT project managers, setting individual objectives, managing performance within our connected conversations framework, providing coaching, and fostering a high-performance, collaborative team environment
  • Serve as a first-level escalation point to increase the speed to resolve issues faced by project teams
  • Assist with identifying process and project management improvement opportunities, and support the implementation of any changes
  • Work with the teams to ensure new work is scheduled to start when approvals are given.
  • Liaise with team members, management, and clients to ensure business led / IT on IT projects are completed to the highest standard through quality project delivery
  • Define and track project scope, budget, timeline, resources, quality, and benefits
  • Assign work packages to project resources and monitoring of deliverables
  • Effectively communicate with the project team, project board, IT team and business teams
  • Work with technical and business teams to build the project charter, project plan, communication plan and other project assets
  • Work with product owners and technical teams to prioritize backlog, score user stories, and act as a servant leader and coach for an Agile Team, ensuring that the agreed Agile methodologies are being followed.
  • Follow IT PMO and project delivery governance standards, ensuring that project documents are current and change control is followed
  • Monitor the quality of deliverables and ensure that they are in line with the expected scope

Candidate Specification

Essential

  • University degree or equivalent related to technology, project management, engineering, or relevant industry experience
  • Project Management certification: Prince2 (Practitioner) or PMP
  • Experience managing people and high-performing teams
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Significant end-to-end project management experience
  • Experience with productivity tools such as Microsoft Teams and Office 365
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once or to manage projects within a program, and able to manage projects using waterfall, agile and hybrid approaches
  • Good working knowledge of project management software such as MS Project, Planview Project Place, and DevOps
  • Exceptional customer service skills

Desirable

  • Knowledge of ITIL Service Management best practices
  • Experience managing projects and teams across geographies, or having worked in a matrix environment
  • Broad technical Knowledge of IT applications and services
  • ITIL V3/V4 foundation certification.
  • Experience of working in a global organisation in a corporate IT environment.
  • Scaled Agile, Scrum Alliance or other agile certification
