About the business unit:

Mott MacDonald’s enabling functions are the driving force behind our organisation to ensure we run our business efficiently and effectively. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced, proactive, and pragmatic Human Resources (HR) Advisor to join the Advisory (APD) business unit.

This is a generalist HR role, in which you will work collaboratively with the enabling teams and the Senior HRBP, offering specialist advice and best practice to all aspects of HR advisory across the employee life cycle, including employee relations (ER), absence management, and first line advisory.

About the role:
We are in an exciting period of transition, which will see you provide efficient and effective support to our organisation, and other HR teams on a range of operational and strategic HR activities.


In this role you will:

  • Have a strong focus on coaching and supporting managers through a wide range of ER cases, including absence, performance, capability, grievance, disciplinary, investigation and termination.
  • Provide sound advice to managers and employees on HR policies, procedures and legislation, independently responding to queries and ensuring a consistent and pragmatic approach.
  • Advise on family friendly policies and agile working guidance, including case management of flexible working requests.
  • Proactively manage absence and wellbeing cases, including monitoring absence data and managing Occupational Health referrals.
  • Provide advice and guidance on secondments, transfers, cross-border remote working requests and relocations, ensuring a consistent and trackable approach.
  • Assist with general cyclical activities such as salary reviews, promotions and L&D programmes.
  • Be responsible for providing monthly and adhoc reporting.
  • Support with the design and delivery of training materials for the business.
  • Support and promote engagement with CSR activities.
  • Build key stakeholder relationships.
  • Make a positive contribution to the development of guidelines for people processes, attend and participate in appropriate meetings and forums.
  • Work closely with the HR shared services and payroll teams to ensure accurate and timely transfer of information.
  • Support and work closely with the wider HR team on adhoc projects and tasks as reasonably required.


About you:
We welcome interest from candidates with:

  • Previous experience in an HR advisory role, and excellent knowledge of managing a range of employee relations cases in accordance with UK legislation to include grievances, disciplinaries, performance management, absence management, redundancies etc.
  • Professional, proactive and positive attitude with the ability to motivate self.
  • Reliable and able to work independently.
  • Excellent analytical and numeracy skills with the ability to analyse and interpret complex data and people information.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to quickly build effective, collaborative relationships with the wider people team, and other colleagues across the business.
  • Good organisation and prioritisation skills with the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to maintain discretion and integrity at all times.
  • Comply with Data Protection and General Data Protections Regulations (GDPR) and ensure the security of employee information in accordance with legislation and best practice.
  • Ability to communicate routine and complex information clearly at all levels recognising the importance of attention to detail and confidentiality.
  • Good IT skills, including proficiency in HR Systems, and Microsoft Office.
  • CIPD qualified to level 5, or working towards
