About the business unit
The Advisory and Programme Delivery (APD) unit delivers management services in all the sectors that Mott MacDonald operate in the Built Environment, Defence, Energy, Water, Transportation and, Education, Health and Care.

The Unit delivers services to projects ranging in scale and complexity up to £20bn, through the technical disciplines of Programme Management, Project Management, Project Controls, Scheduling, Cost Management, Estimating, Infrastructure Finance, Management Consulting, Digital Consulting and Education, Health and Care Management.

Our environment and water portfolio is primarily a UK based business delivering project, programme and commercial management services to regulated water/wastewater clients and the Environment Agency. Our work stretches across the entire project lifecycle, from pre-contract cost estimating and benchmarking to post contract QS services and commercial assurance.

For project and programme management we deliver capital projects on behalf of our clients, both internal and external that range from several hundred thousand pounds in value to major projects and programmes worth over £0.5billion. Additionally, we are the home of the cost intelligence service, a specialist team of data analysts and economists who provide expert advice across all sectors on inflation and indexation. We currently work with around half of the UK’s regulated water and wastewater companies.

Overview of role

We are currently looking for an Estimating and Cost Intelligence (E&CI) Lead to join the highly successful and growing Environment and Water Portfolio.

The E&CI Lead will be a key member of the Environment and Water Account senior management team, reporting into the E&CI Director for Environment and Water, and will work closely with other account leaders across the portfolio and wider Mott MacDonald sectors and practices. This role is critical for delivering award winning services, building and maintaining Mott MacDonald’s relationships with the client, Southern Water Services (SWS). You will take the leading role in establishing and maintaining client relationships with a focus on technically excellent on Estimating and Cost Intelligence service delivery.

Day to day you will:

BAU Operations

  • You will lead and support delivery of the Framework that encompasses; Estimating, Assurance, Cost Analytical and Carbon services for Southern Water
  • You will work closely with the SWS Cost Intelligence Manager as well as other Client senior leads and Stakeholders.
  • You will ensure compliance with both Client and Mott MacDonald business management and quality assurance processes and procedures.
  • You will run appropriate team meetings with Pillar Leads, Clients, and senior level management.
  • Monitoring of finances, profitability and utilisation on projects against budgets with the Project manager, Project Principle and MM Account Lead as well the with the Client.

Growth

  • Working with the Clients Key Stakeholders, and MM Account Leads to develop the CIT Engagement Plans in line with the Portfolio and Unit Business plan and Sector Strategy.
  • Maximising the opportunities within the existing Client Framework and also the renewal / extension of the existing Framework
  • Identifying new opportunities, pre-positioning, and converting them into firm prospects. (Tracked and managed).
  • Driving the bidding process, converting prospects into projects ensuring bids are technically and commercially sound.
  • Leading in the recruitment and growth of the team.


People

  • The CIT Pillar Leads will be reporting to you, they manage and are responsible for the day-to-day functions of the Pillars and the management of their individual teams. As CI&E Lead you will maintain accountability for the development, wellbeing and utilisation of those working within SWS CIT as a whole.
  • You will manage CIT resources and attend CIT resource meetings to ensure optimal resource levels are maintained.
  • You will establish and manage a team structure with clear responsibilities, delegations, and succession to ensure long term success.

Candidate Specification:

  • Experience in the UK Environment and Water Sector.
  • Experience in Cost Intelligence, Estimating, Cost Analytics
  • Experience in Project, Programme, and Commercial Management (PPCM) or related Advisory Services and ideally working Client Side on Projects/Programmes.
  • Experience leading a consultancy offering.
  • Experience in leading a team and managing people.
  • Experience in maintaining and managing client relationships to win work. Ideally the candidate would have existing relationships within relevant clients.
  • Professionally qualified with a relevant body (or may be working towards this)
