About the role

Motorway is looking for a Senior SEO Manager. You will be in charge of implementing a best-in-class SEO strategy across technical and content. You will lead a team and manage a team of freelancers to craft an SEO strategy. In this role, you will work to craft our content strategy, identify technical SEO practices, and implement them across our website. You will be up to date with the latest SEO news and updates.

Reporting to the Growth Director, you will manage initiatives that drive business growth from demand to sales. You’ll develop strategies based on customer insights and market data, lead large-scale SEO initiatives, and ensure the seamless delivery of complex programs.

This highly cross-functional role requires close collaboration with marketing teams and stakeholders, including Performance, Comms, Brand Marketing, Creative, Product, Data Analytics, and Engineering,

What you’ll do:

  • Develop and execute SEO & content strategy designed to increase revenue, traffic, and rankings.
  • Conduct regular competitor analysis to identify opportunities and optimise strategies.
  • Ownership of ranking position & organic traffic for your vertical: monitoring positions and coming up with action plans to mitigate drops or capitalise on updates
  • In partnership with Product & Engineering, build improvement & implementation plans for SEO page templates; optimise and refine site architecture and internal linking structure; plan scalable content production strategies.
  • Monitor Google updates and algorithm changes and update SEO guides and initiatives.
  • Find opportunities to continually test and iterate on landing page templates, modules and content to improve both user experience performance (e.g. CTR, rankings).
  • Closely monitor the traffic and revenue performance of content by carrying out monthly audits.
  • Analyse data around ranking, visibility, traffic, and conversions closely to proactively identify relevant trends and improve growth opportunities.
  • Manage and maintain processes, including internal linking and tech / product-led SEO, in partnership with Product and engineering to proactively improve them.
  • Help to create SEO content plans for key marketing campaigns and key seasonal moments.
  • Support with the internal link-building strategy for content.
  • Work closely with the Product, Engineering & Analytics teams to ensure the best results for key projects - setting clear briefs and requirements, testing schedules and delivering post-implementation analysis back to the wider team and business.
  • Manage a team consisting of an SEO executive and freelancers.
  • Be accountable for projects and tracking, monitoring and reporting of progress and results.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in SEO with a good understanding of best practices for on-page, off-page (link building and other ranking signals), and all on-site technical aspects.
  • Experience driving innovative approaches and initiatives in SEO strategies and tactics.
  • Target-oriented and experienced in driving and being accountable to performance improvements.
  • Proficiency and familiarity with relevant SEO tools (e.g. SEMRush, AhRefs and SEOWind) and Google analytics platforms like Google Trends and Search Console
  • Understanding of modern front-end markup, schema and coding best practice for SEO (eg across HTML, Javascript, and CSS) and other factors impacting site quality metrics
  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to deliver strategic roadmaps to senior stakeholders.
  • Effective project management and experience working with many stakeholders to deliver strategy.
  • Technical SEO expertise, especially within an agile team environment, with the ability to brief technical requirements.
  • Strong experience working with internal and external content teams and conducting content gap analysis to create SEO-optimised briefs.
  • Good knowledge of the latest SEO developments, AI usage in SEO, and algorithmic changes.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills - an inquisitive mind.
  • Good time management and prioritisation skills.
  • Excellent communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to optimally work on multiple projects at once.
  • Passion for Digital Marketing: Clearly passionate about digital marketing, content, and prioritising customer needs.
