Insight into the role

The Commercial Finance team plays a critical role in our business, partnering with senior leaders and their teams to provide clear and accurate planning and forecasting, helping to ensure our commercial success and achieve our mission of ‘helping every household make the most of their money’.

Reporting directly into the Senior Finance Business Partner for Insurance and customer, the Insurance Business Partner will be a close and trusted financial partner, embedded within the vertical providing valuable guidance and challenge on all key decisions. This role will provide detailed relevant insight into vertical performance and its drivers, helping the vertical to optimise performance and achieve growth targets.

How you’ll spend your day

Trading Process

  • Operates strong trading process to deliver advanced insight and drive action to improve commercial performance

  • Ensure that the Insurance vertical team are fully appraised of the financial performance of their business areas through key KPI’s and the potential value and implications of relative tactical and strategic options

  • Ensure that issues and opportunities are recognised, analysed and raised with the relevant leadership team

  • Leading the continuous improvements to the provision of trading information, developing insight delivered via the group BI tool (Tableau)

  • Provide insight around all marketing sources within the vertical, ensuring the efficiency of spend and appraising new options for investment

  • Supporting the commercial team to drive improved revenue and cost saving opportunities

  • Working alongside the vertical team in supporting the production and insight for the weekly and monthly performance review sessions

  • Providing strong support to the head of finance, deputising where appropriate

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Lead role in the vertical quarterly reforecast and budget planning processes

  • In-month forecasting at the appropriate level of detail inline, developing this as business requirements change

  • Deliver insightful analysis and commentary of forecasts and budgets

Processes and continuous improvement

  • Manage agreed controls over commercial decisions and planning and investment processes

  • Driving continuous improvement of reporting and forecasting processes, responding to the changing insight needs of the business

  • Acting as a data steward to ensure integrity of reporting, working closely with Data and BI to resolve incidents and improve data

Management Accounting

  • Review management accounts before final issue for commercial reasonableness and to agree any significant judgements that impact commercial results

What value you’ll bring to the role

  • Able to successfully operate within a demanding, fast moving digital business

  • Professionally qualified ACCA, CIMA or CA/ACA

  • Ability to explore and analyse detail performance data to find the key trends driving trading performance without getting lost in detail or complexity

  • Able to identify key commercial levers and influence commercial solutions at both senior financial and non-financial colleagues

  • Naturally create strong working relationships as a trusted advisor, able to challenge and develop thinking

  • Comfortable with challenging the business on complex, data driven decisions

  • Commercially astute with the ability to identify, understand and mitigate risks

  • A real focus on the customer and on ensuring that everything we do delivers a great outcome for our customers

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a retail or online business.

  • Experience with driver-based financial planning, with experience of the Anaplan tool preferable

  • Confident with Business Intelligence tools such as Tableau and ability to build a suitable understanding of the group’s data architecture
