Job Description

Our team protects Microsoft, its people, and assets in more than 170 countries. We are looking to hire a Senior Investigator to join our Global Security Investigations team.

In this Senior Investigator role, the candidate will be responsible for investigating a variety of physical security related matters that potentially impact the Microsoft workforce or facilities worldwide, reducing risk via the identification, intervention, and mitigation of physical threats, and upholding Microsoft’s ethical well-being by investigating violations of Microsoft policy.

Responsibilities

Case Development and Preparation

  • Independently, identifies and triages highly complex, higher risk reported issues to determine their priority. Organizes information and defines next steps for investigations of high risk, impact, or exposure. Facilitates discussions on developing tactical investigation strategy and direction. Assesses and communicates immediate and potential risks to leadership and key stakeholders and offers suggestions for overcoming potential obstacles in a timely manner.
  • Independently identifies and interprets broader, complex sources of information and appropriate investigative tools and technologies to resolve investigations of high risk, impact, or exposure. Coordinates and collaborates with relevant internal stakeholders to execute objectives. Distils information from complex data to prepare investigation plans and procedures.
  • Independently identifies, gathers, and reviews underlying documentation, internal and external data, relevant facts, and internal and external industry trends related to investigative matters. Compiles data from different complex sources, tracks and records the findings to assist the investigation. May collaborate with colleagues to source and interpret relevant data.
  • May independently utilize advanced interview skills to schedule and conduct highly complex interviews to gather relevant information, establish facts, and determine root causes. Leverages compiled data from data review and synthesis during interviews to advance investigation. Conducts complex analyses on information gathered during interviews to validate facts, generate insights, and identify gaps or outliers in known information. Simplifies complex topics to assess root-cause analyses and remediation efforts.

Case Management

  • Independently manages and monitors supplier, internal/external partner, stakeholder resources to drive cases to an outcome. May manage programs, training, supplier utilization strategies, and resources within budget, resulting in the utilization of resources and cost effectiveness. Drives management of stakeholder expectations.
  • Independently documents complex case activities in accordance with global team standards. Develops complex reports to include relevant investigation information, maintain clear communication on the progress and next steps, and deliver succinct work products to help make informed decisions.
  • Independently informs customers, partners, stakeholders, and direct management about the progress of active cases/issues, recommends next steps and actions, and communicates challenges and areas of improvement. Assists stakeholders in addressing complex risk and improving operation effectiveness and expectations. Represents Microsoft to high-profile internal and external stakeholders on complex investigative cases. Shares actionable intelligence, reports risks, and encourages feedback from the stakeholders to improve operational and investigative effectiveness. Provides input on proposed changes to improve detection of relevant information and identify gaps. Develops and/or executes a plan to improve team improvement processes.

Professional Development

  • Independently develops content and presents internal and/or external education and awareness activities and effectively communicates internally and/or externally. Solicits feedback and takes steps to improve self-work. Acts as a thought leader in several aspects of professional areas related to investigations and security. Assists in providing case consultations to teams.
  • Serves as a Trusted Leader to the business and partners.

  • Rapid and effective decision-making during unusual or emergency situations.
  • Respond to occasional emergency situations, at any hour, with short notice.
  • Travel, as required.
  • Engage in rotating 24x7 On-Call assignments.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in Compliance, Investigations, or related field
    • OR equivalent experience.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Criminal Justice, Social Sciences, Psychology, Law, or related field AND extensive experience in conducting criminal, corporate and/or compliance investigations, or related discipline
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Deep knowledge and experience in behavioural sciences, threat assessment, targeted violence and related physical security/safety risk.
  • Certified Threat Manager (CTM), Professional Certified Investigator (PCI) and/or Certified Protection Professional (CPP).
  • Proficient in the use of technology, computers (hardware, operating systems, networks), and software at a power user level (M365, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access/SQL, PowerBI, SharePoint, Copilot, etc.).
  • Willingness to take on call as needed.
