Job Description

Microsoft has an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineering leader to join the International Sovereign Platform team within Azure Edge & Platform, leading and growing a geographically diverse team developing and supporting key aspects of secure infrastructure solutions. With a focus on cross domain cloud transfer capabilities and secure administration, this team will be involved in developing and supporting products that underpin a wide range of requirements within highly regulated and assured environments.

To bring together existing engineers and scale the team to meet the development and operational demands, we need a seasoned engineering leader to drive the successful delivery of critical capabilities while simultaneously recruiting, onboarding and ramping up across multiple countries as the services deploy and go live. The successful candidate will have a strong pedigree leading fast-paced teams to solve complex problems in an infrastructure, security and resilience focused environment, while simultaneously ensuring outstanding support across multiple environments. In this role, you will have the opportunity to build, develop and lead a team of engineers who enable a set of Azure services that are critical to multiple partners and assured environments.

Responsibilities

  • As the leader of the engineering leader of a key group within the Sovereign Platform team, you’ll be responsible for bring together, developing, growing and leading a geographical dispersed team of ~25 infrastructure focused engineers to create products and experiences in high-assurance environments.
  • A critical element will be the of a robust 24/7/365 support rotation across environments in multiple countries around the world, to ensure service levels are met and exceeded. These environments demand robust security and reliability, so your role will involve ensuring smooth operations and rapid resolution of issues.
  • Within the Sovereign environment, you’ll utilise DevOps practices to deploy, operate, and maintain specific services. While primarily related to security, networking, along with servers and desktops, the role will need to ensure maximum efficiency and scale through extensive use of infrastructure-as-code, scripting, along with automated monitoring and remediation.
  • Working with leaders, partners and teams across the globe and specifically the project and programme management community, you will ensure a well maintained backlog and forecast across multiple horizons.
  • Collaboration across the global organisation is essential. By maximizing sharing and reuse, you’ll enhance efficiency and consistency. Sharing best practices and lessons learned will contribute to overall success.
  • Working closely with security, certification and compliance teams, you’ll ensure adherence to security standards and sovereign requirements. This involves integrating security practices into all aspects of your work. By maintaining a strong security posture, you’ll protect critical assets.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, with multiple years of experience leading teams to design, develop and support products/solutions in complex IT environments.
  • Outstanding leadership skills, able to develop and grow a diverse team of individuals to collaborate as a cohesive team in delivering outcomes.
  • Experience line managing groups greater than 10 people, including coaching more junior team managers under your leadership.
  • Excellent knowledge of the foundations of secure IT infrastructure, including deep understanding of IP networking and system administration/management environments.
  • Extensive experience of security requirements, controls and solutions.
  • Capable of technical deep dives into infrastructure architecture, design, operations, and security.
  • Ability to build and influence broadly towards common goals and priorities.
  • Firm sense of accountability, ownership for end-to-end service lifecycles with solid project management and outstanding communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience of leading international teams across multiple continents and cultures.
  • Experience of the challenges of system and service management in high security domains.
  • Knowledge of Cross Domain Solutions
  • Experience with leading teams focused on Infrastructure-as-Code

Security Clearance Requirements:

Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
  • Customer or government screening requirements as needed over time.
  • Must be a national of an EU country or the UK.
